thisparticularquestmightprovetobetroublesome:theKnightRangerswont
allowanyonewithoutapermittoentertheforest;becauseoftheincreasingthreat
oftheJungleBoys,nopermitsarecurrentlybeingassigned;thegroveisprotected
byamaddruid;andthefruitonlyripensonceeverydecade,ontheupcoming
NightofThreeMoons.

HouseVadalishasdevelopedthatgiftintoalucrativeandpowerfuleconomic

andtheHandlersGuildhasoutpoststhroughoutKhorvaire.HouseVadalisisa

raidtheholdingsofthehouse.Inaddition,HouseVadalismadebitterenemies
amongtheelvesofValenarwhenitsoughttostealaherdofValenarhorses

KingsForest:Agreattropicalrainforestfillsthesoutheasternportionof
Breland,fromtheDaggerRiverinthewesttotheTrolanRiver(nowpartof
Zilargo)intheeast,fromtheHowlingRiverinthenorthtothecontinents
southerncoast.TheKingsForestisahuntingpreservethatoncebelongedtothe
GalifarkingandnowfallsundertheprotectionofBrelandscrown.TheKnight
Rangerspatroltherainforest,watchingforpoachersandtryingtokeepincheck
thebanditsandbrigandswhohidewithinitsdepths.SincetheTreatyof
Thronehold,theeasternportionoftheforesthasbeenpartofZilargo;mindfulof
this,theBrelishrangersrarelycrosstheborderinpursuitoftheirduties.
Therefore,itisntunusualforbandsofbrigandstofleeacrosstheborderasthey
trytoevadetherangers.
Once,theKingsForestcoveredtheentiresouthernhalfofBreland,cutinhalf
bythemightyDaggerRiver.Loggingandcultivationhavereducedtheforests
sizeoverthecenturies,anditbecamenecessaryforaroyaldecreetopreservethe
portionoftheforestthatremains.Allkindsoftropicalplants,insects,andwild
lifefilltheKingsForest.Hunting,exceptbypermitorroyalinvitation,isstrictly
prohibited.Inthefallseason,thekingandhiscourt,aswellashonoredguests,
entertheKingsForesttoparticipateinaGreatHunt.Exoticanimalsofalltypes
arethesubjectsoftheGreatHunt,andKingBoranellovestolethishuntingtigers
runattheheadofhisparty.Sometimesadireorhorridanimalfallstothehunters
(astuffedhorridape,killedbyKingBoranelduringtheGreatHuntof966,deco
ratesahallinBrokenbladeCastle),butmoreoftentheywindupwithavarietyof
exoticbutmundanebirds,lizards,andmammals.
TheJungleBoys,abandofbloodthirstybrigands,hidewithintheKingsForest.
Thebandisvariouslyestimatedtohaveanywherefromadozenmentoasmanyas
ahundredbrigandsandamockcourtofbeggars,harlots,andotherhangerson.An
outlawknownasTreeViper(CEmalehalforc,ranger1/rogue2)leadstheJungle
Boys.Thebandperiodicallyraidsthethorps,villages,andplantationsthatlinethe
edgeoftheforest,andsometimesitambushescaravansandtravelersastheymove
throughtheforest.TheKnightRangershavetangledwiththeJungleBoyson

morethanoneoccasion,buttheyhaventbeenabletocapturetheirleaderorput
anendtotheirmarauding.
