FAIR TRADE

INTRODUCTION
Way of buying and selling products. It works as an alternative to the convectional trade.
Trading method barely spread around the world.
POSITION
The fact is that conventional trade causes inequality.
The conventional trade tends to discriminate and pressure the poorest producers. These producers
are often located in the countries with more development difficulties.
Id like to show how can Fair trade help people.
FIRST ARGUMENT
First, FT products are produced under some principles. These principles are standards that
guarantee fair labour practices.
Mainly, FT guarantees reasonable prices for goods. The producers and farmers are promised
minimum prices. In example, for a regular chocolate bar, producers are usually paid $0.20. If the
buyer had been a fair trade company, the producer would have received $0.24. That means a 20%
more.
SECOND ARGUMENT
Secondly, producers can be paid before the harvest in order to avoid bank credits. With the extra
benefit they dont have to pay interest to banks, so they can invest in health and educational projects.
THIRD ARGUMENT
Moreover, there are environment regulations too in order to respect our nature and the quality of
the product. All fair trade products are eco-friendly.
Other standards are the direct trade between producers and sellers. Nowadays, the fact is
convectional trade has a lot of middlemen that cause too much cost, that sometimes are not necessary.
Democratic and transparent decisions. The groups of producers must operate under democratic
principles.
Environmental sustainability in production. In fair trade, only sustainable agriculture practices are
used. No genetically-modified organisms are allowed.
ARGUMENTS AGAINST
Some people think that FT is a type o charity, so only governments has the obligation to take
responsibility for it. I would like to highlight is that this type of trade is not charity or a donation
way. It is an actual way of selling products with profit, but without pressing or damaging the
producers.
Some people think FT products are too expensive. In my opinion, conventional products are too cheap.
CONCLUSION
FT is a method of fight against this injustices and inequality.
I think it is an actual alternative to try to get a better world.

We have to take responsibility for our shopping habits so FT is a really good and useful way to do it.
