PRINCIPLES OF MANAGEMENT (MGT503)

ASSIGNMENT NO. 01
DUE DATE: 26TH JULY, 2016
MARKS: 10
Topic: PERT Network

Introduction:

PERT is a network planning method for managing and controlling large onetime projects. PERT is basically the Program Evaluation and Review Technique
that is widely used in construction projects for efficient management of
activities. Developing a PERT network requires that a manager must identify
all key activities needed to complete a project, rank them in order of
occurrence and estimate each activity's completion time. Major steps of
developing a PERT network are: identify every significant activity that must
be achieved for a project to be completed, determine the order in which
these events must be completed, diagram the flow of activities from start to
end, compute a time estimate for completing each activity. After using the
network diagram that contains time estimates for each activity, determine a
schedule for start and finish dates of each activity.

The Case:

Suppose you are the project manager in ABC Construction Company and you
have been assigned a task to oversee the construction of an office building.
By knowing the time value of money, you have to determine that how long it
will take to get the building completed. You have determined the specific
activities and events for project scheduling. Below table outlines the major
events in the construction of an office building project and the expected time
to complete each activity.
