Sunday Message – Today Jesus 117

22/04/07

<Luke 19:28-44>

THE KING OF KINGS ENTERS THE CITY ON A COLT

• We must confirm whether we have a King in our lives and what is the relationship between Him
and us? Are we always able to hear His voice?
• A person who has a King in his life will be different. He will not be attacked or bound by illnesses
so easily
• We should enjoy the spiritual abundances
• How can Believers display the glory of the King if they are often weak and sick?
• The most disgusting people are those who do not have a King in their lives. They may be very
rich, but are filled with lots of worries and agonies. Thus, some Believers might feel more
miserable even though they have established a family or found a partner
• What is the mood of our lives right now?
• Since we have a King in our lives, we should have peace and confidence in our lives.
• There are a lot of “posers” in this world
• How should the atmosphere be for the Believers’ families? Do we often quarrel with our family
members over small matters? We should restore the presence of the King in our family
• We must also restore the presence of the King in our Church. We should not listen to the voice of
men in the Church. Thus, the Church shouldn’t talk about politics or carnal things
• Everyone will grow lax or want to be their own lord if there isn’t a King in the Church. This is why
there will always be disagreement in some Churches
• The Preacher is not the King. However, Believers ought to confirm the words preached by the
Preacher. This is what it means to be submissive to God
• What kind of attitude should we have when we go to the Church to worship the King?
• Our Church must be renewed as One Body. It is not true that only the Preacher is right and all the
members are wrong. Thus, all of us must be renewed
• Our concerns and interests must be changed. We are the Generals of the King. What attitude
must we, the Generals of the world, have?
• The General must be willing to sacrifice for the people under them. Only things that we have
acquired from our sacrifices are valuable

Read <Luke 19:28-44>

• v30 Jesus Christ will come again riding a horse
• v38 God’s glory is upon our lives

1. King enters the City

• Lord Jesus Christ is the King of Kings
1) King of Kings
• He came in the name of God
• All things will praise the name of Jesus Christ <v40>
• He is the Creator of all things. He is able to change water into wine
• Everything is determined by God. All the Presidents in this world are determined by God.
If God is not willing, not a single President will have the authority to rule a country
• God arranges, prepares and fulfills everything
• We are Israel. When God called Abraham and Israel, God had the intention to make them
the kings over all things
• Our problems come from not acknowledging and relying on this King
• Christians gain victories over everything with their spirits and hearts
• God’s purpose for calling us is to make us be victorious over all things

2) The King of Peace

• Jesus Christ won by using peacefulness
• He didn’t enter the city on a horse, but on a colt
• He is at peace with everything. Thus, we shouldn’t be proud or feel guilty or inferior
• A person who doesn’t like himself suffers the most. Our Lord wants us to have peace with
ourselves too
• The Lord wants us to have peace in the family. We must be able to hear God’s peaceful
voice at home
• It is easiest for us to fall when we are most busy and disorganized
• We can never hate another person if we are always in God’s love. This should be the life
of Christians. The problem is we have yet to hear God’s peaceful voice
• God wants us to have peace because He has already done everything for us
• When the King has peace, His Generals should have peace too

3) Enters Jerusalem: The King of Jerusalem (Prince of Peace) enters His own Kingdom
• What is Jerusalem? What is the spiritual meaning of Jerusalem?
• Jerusalem is the place where God’s temple exists
• It is in Jerusalem that Abraham wanted to sacrifice his son, Isaac
• The temple was built in Jerusalem. The Temple consists of the outer courts, the holy
place and the most holy place. This is our lives
• It is not only when a person does everything correctly that he can have peace. Man can
only have peace and freedom when he has gotten God’s grace and pardon. It is because
we are always under the attacks of the spirit that brings us no peace

4) Jerusalem is the life of the Saints, and the place where the Saints gather (i.e. Church) <John
2:9; 1Cor 3:16>
• The Temple represents the life of the Saints. God is most concerned on the place (i.e.
Church) where the Saints meet
• What are we always thinking about? Are we always thinking about our food, drinks and
work/career? If this is the case, we have become like animals
• A person will only enter into religion when God departs from his life. E.g. they have the
thoughts that men will become animals after their death
• We must know God’s perfect will. When we do, the enemy will attack us from one
direction, but flee in seven directions
• Parents need not worry for their children
• A lot of people do not dare to accept God’s covenant. They have thoughts such as “I
deserve it; it’s my retribution” whenever they are weak or when something happens to
them
• If we really want to build God’s Holy Temple, then we need to die and resurrect with the
Lord and also to restore His purpose
• No matter how good our conditions are, our royalty does not come from our conditions
• We have a royal life because we have the eternal purpose

5) Jesus’ entrance to the city symbolizes “the Saints and Church welcomes Jesus as the King of
Kings” <Revelations 3:20; Romans 6:1-11>
• Jerusalem represents our lives. Thus, Jesus Christ enters the city is like Him entering our
lives and become our King
• Jesus Christ must be the King, and not the guest in our lives
• He is not “just another good person”, or “just another one among the rest”
• Jesus Christ must be our “Only”. There is no salvation apart from Him. He is the only
Way, Truth and Life
• We didn’t come together because of World Peace. Thus, we cannot do any movement for
World Peace with other religious bodies / group

2. The King cried for the City

• The Lord cried as He entered the city because He saw how people were doing businesses in
the Holy Temple
• The Lord has infinite memory. He remembered that it was at Jerusalem that Abraham wanted
to sacrifice Isaac. It was at Jerusalem that David had built the tents. And in Solomon’s era,
Jerusalem was the most glorious place of all
• He cried after seeing the state of Jerusalem
• He saw how the enemies had surrounded Jerusalem. It is just like us being surrounded by
enemies

1) Jerusalem would be wiped out. What is the reason for this?

• Jerusalem had lost sight of the King of Kings. The religious leaders had became the kings
• Jerusalem and the Holy Temple had lost the wisdom of the Great Prophet, the authority of
the Great King and the compassion of the Great Priest
• Thus, the whole Jerusalem city was surrounded by enemies. It means how our lives (a
home or in family, etc) are surrounded by all kinds of evil spirits
• Jerusalem would be wiped out because they did not know when God would enter its city

2) Jerusalem used to be God’s only concern and the focus of the world. How about now?
• How precious and important are we to our parents? Therefore, our parents will definitely
cry and be very upset if we had become like “rubbish”
• Likewise, how precious and important are we to our God, Father?
• How glorious was Solomon’s era when he was the king! Israel was attacked and ruined
by their enemies when they’d lost their wisdom
• We will not be easily attacked and affected by noises if we are able to use God’s wisdom
• A person without God will behave like a Barbarian once he is overwhelmed by his
problems
• The problem with Jerusalem was because the Temple was weak
• The Israelites praised God 24 hours daily when Jerusalem was in its most glorious days
• However, everyone will grow lax and do whatever they want when the Temple and Church
have become weak
• Churches should restore the glory of Solomon’s era. This should be our vision
3) Jerusalem used to have a mission prepared by God. What mission was that?
• Jerusalem had lost the mission given to them by God. God’s purpose for Israel was to
have them rule the world
• God didn’t call us to be an insignificant person on earth
• What are the reasons for us to be together? Is it because of friendship? Money is the
motivating factor that makes people go to work and gather with their colleagues. Do we
go to church simply because of friendship?
• The Church should be a place where one can find the most love. However, love must be
built on the absolute vision. Therefore, our relationship with the congregation is eternal
• We must have the vision of One Lord, One Spirit, One Baptism, One Purpose and One
Direction
• We must not be a “small vessel”
• “Small vessel” means that we will feel miserable once we face any small problem and feel
joyful whenever we come across something good
• We can only become “big vessel” when we do things that have eternal values
• We are healed when we have God’s aroma coming out from our lives
• Are we a small or big vessel in God’s perspective?

4) The Lord Jesus Christ, still sees “Jerusalem today” and cries
• The Lord does not just cry for Jerusalem then. He still sees the weaknesses of the
churches today and cries
• We must confirm this week: When God sees our lives now, is He crying or smiling?
• If we see that God is crying for us, we must first cry ourselves
• Only those who cry for themselves will be trained by god to become a “big vessel”
• Thereafter, we will get Jesus Christ’s heart. When we see people’s situation, we will cry
for them
• Our spiritual problem allows us to see our own weaknesses but will not cry because of
them

3. To everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has
will be taken away <25-26>
1) The rise of a person
(1) Must truly believe “He has all the power in heaven and on earth”
• Do we believe that God is in control of everything? If so, why are we unhappy so
often?
• We do not just believe using our mouth. Our faith comes from confirming
• Confirm that we are already blessed and loved by God

(2) We must understand what it means to “Let Him in to have dinner with us” <Matt 9:10>

(3) We must resolute to “establish His glorious throne so that In everything He might have the
supremacy” = to totally destroy, and newly reconstruct <Col 1:18>
• To format everything. To format up all our perspectives (values, life’s and historical
perspectives etc)
• In everything, put God’s perspective as our perspective
(4) We must know how to test and approve God’s good, pleasing and perfect will is

(5) We must submit to God’s leading in our “body, heart & mind”, as well as in our “life,
relationships and wealth”
• When the Lord asks us not to worry, we will not worry = submit
• When the Lord asks us to be joyful, we will just be joyful = submit
• The reason why we often say “however, but” is because our thinking has not
acknowledged that God is our King
• We must restore the absolute faith and the absolute answer

2) The rise of a church

• A church is formed when two people come together. Therefore, a family is a church
• God’s first concern is for us to have peace. His second concern is for His people to have
wisdom

(1) God gathered a group of Christian disciples <Acts 1:1-14>

• The time spent together is the most important. It is the most important when we get
blessed together
• We must restore the meaning of spending time together

(2) God will give this era’s vision to them <Acts 1:8>
• What is our vision? Is it to spread the Lord’s word till the ends of the age?

(3) Christ’s Spirit has caused them to join constantly in prayers <Acts 1:13-14>
• Only those with vision will pray earnestly
• Peter only became a different person after God came into his life. It was then that he
became a “big vessel”
• People will only gather when they see that his life is different

(4) When God’s spirit filled them, they received power and obtained several evidence of
Emmanuel < Acts 2:1-4>

(5) God uses the blessed lives of His disciples to testify, evangelize and testify that “He is the
Christ”< Acts 2:5-36>

(6) God obtains His chosen people and will add on the people who are saved to the
churches< Acts 2:37-41>

(7) Christ’s disciples gathered daily at the temple courts and broke bread at homes (Learn
about Jesus Christ, enjoy Jesus Christ, testify for Jesus Christ) < Acts 2:42-47>

** A church living that is not blessed will not bring about blessed Christians disciples; If there
is no blessed disciple, there will be no blessed Christian church

3) The rise of Jerusalem then

(1) Through the network of disciples, God will continue to expand the doors and paths of
evangelism < Acts 8:4-8, 11:19-30‥28:30-31>
(2) In every area, God will first find “a blessed family”< Mat 10:11; Acts 16:14-15, 17:1-9,
18:1-4…>
• Our blessedness starts from the family
• The problem of people comes from the family because when we live together with
other people, there will be many problems
• Do not be afraid of our parents’ persecutions. This will be used by God

(3) Centered around that “blessed family” and conduct discipleship training and continue to
gather the chosen disciples of Chris <Acts 2:41-47, 11:19-30, 18:9-11, 19:8-20, 28:30-
31>
• “Discipleship trainings” must start
• All Sunday School teachers should be adequately equipped
• The church’s ministries are led by disciples
• By giving disciples ministries, it is also the time to give them blessings

(4) Establish churches in every area< Acts 13:1-3 The Church in Antioch, 14:23 The Church
in Lystra, 16:40 The Church in Philippi, 17:1-9 The Church in Thessalonica, 18:1-11 The
Church in Corinth, 19:8-20 The Church in Ephesus, 28:30-31 The Church in Rome>
• When churches are established, what is most important is not the name of the
church. What is most important is the church’s messages and the loves of its
believers

(5) When the churches from every area communicate and interact to be joined and held
together, there will be a rise to more regional evangelism work. Disciples will increase in
numbers, Christian churches will be established, and the restoration of God’s people in an
era will follow <Col 4:16, Col 4:7-18, Ro 16:1-27>
• Must restore One Father, One Lord, One Spirit
• We must interact with other remnants from different areas and places
• We are not saying this to criticize other people
• What is the reason why we rebuke our brothers and sisters? Shouldn’t we intervene
when we see that there is a problem in our family?
• When we see that others have strayed away and taken the wrong path, it is only right
that we ask them to turn back and go back before God

Sharing and Prayer Topics

1) Has Jesus Christ already entered my heart and become my King? Is He the King of Kings?
Can He solve all my problems? Is He the Prince of Peace? Does He often fill my heart and
allow me to enjoy His love, righteousness, peace, abundance etc as well as spiritual
blessings?
2) Have I grasped that “The King of my life” is indeed working in my life as a King and that I
am exemplifying His glory and power? Have I grasped the mystery of Him giving me a
victorious and abundant life? (Do ponder and share more: When I meet with problems,
experience how I can rely on God to be victorious; How can I use my experience to help
people around me? Is my experience relevant to all people and all problem?)
3) Ponder: What is the relationship between Singapore Life Church and Missions and
evangelism work in other areas, Southeast Asia, China and World? What is the relationship
between Singapore Life Church and Missions and my life, my family, serving and
inheritance? What evidence have I seen thus far? How do I and my family grow more
intimately with Singapore Life Church and Missions with a church-centred life as we grow,
serve, expand our circle of influence and bless people?
