RICHMOND

Since 1994, 401 Richmond Street West has been

providing affordable workspace to artists and the
creative community in downtown Toronto. This
restored turn-of-the-century industrial building
has become a hub of cultural production with close
to 150 tenants contributing in various ways to
the culture, commerce, and creativity of our city.
The collection of galleries and artist-run centres
located at 401 provide vital exhibition space,
facilities, and member services to countless local,
national, and international artists. This cluster of
galleries represents a diverse spectrum of voices,
mediums, as well as approaches to artistic practice
that is reflective of the broader community in Toronto
and an important contributor to our cultural economy.
We invite you to spend time exploring each of the
unique galleries and shops located at 401 Richmond.
Please refer to this guide, as well as the exhibition
listings page in our Update newsletter as you tour
the building.

401 Richmond Street West is owned and operated by

Urbanspace Property Group. As a mission-driven
developer, Urbanspaces initiatives are directed
toward the preservation and restoration of historic
and architecturally significant spaces with the goal
of adaptively reusing these buildings to provide
commercial opportunities for the creative sector.
Along with 215 Spadina Avenue, we provide spaces
for the arts and social innovation communities.
The Brickolage Tour Program provides opportunities
throughout the year for groups to visit the galleries
and artist-run centres that bring visual arts programming to the building. Arrangements can be made to
meet the curators, artists, and staff who run these
presentation venues, as well as behind-the-scenes
access to art-making facilities. Please contact
Erin MacKeen at erin@urbanspace.org if you would
like to arrange a visit.
