Work Experience

Centre for Nano Science and Engineering (CeNSE), Indian Institute of Science, India
15 October 2014 Ongoing (contract till Sept. 2015)
Project Assistant
Project Leader: Dr. Sushobhan Avasthi
I joined IISc. (ranked 50 in materials science all over the world) as a project assistant for a
tenure of 1 year.
At CeNSE I am associated with two projects:
1. I will help to design and set-up a UHV based PEALD system accompanied with PECVD. I
have been selected for this project based on my 6 months hands on experience on UHV
based device. During this project I will get hands on experience on setting up of a lab.
Other than that I will gain more expertize in UHV which I believe is a prerequisite for
working in the area of solid state physics.
2. Second project on which I am working is Cu2O based p-channel TFTs. During this project
I am responsible for Microwave assisted synthesis of high quality Cu2O film over different

substrates. I will get a hands-on experience of highly sophisticated characterization tools.

I will do device fabrication in class 1000 clean room equipped with modern fabrication
tools.

M.Tech Trainee

17 Jan 2014 30 July 2014

Project leader: Dr. Govind Gupta

During my M.Tech thesis I investigated the controlled growth of indium over high indexed
silicon. To study interface properties extremely thin layer (2-3 monolayers) of Indium was
deposited over high indexed silicon surface. Various parameters such as flux, time, substrate,
and temperature were changed during different sets of experiment in order to investigate
their effect on controlled growth. Temperature desorption study was done to understand
desorption kinetics and evolution of various superstructures. This kind of superstructure study
can have potential use in nanoelectronics and memory devices. We suggested that
temperature induced Layer to Island transitions can be used for high temperature growth of
nanostructures in controlled dimensions. Based on our work we have reported 1 research
paper titled RT & HT growth kinetics of Indium on Si (112) surface
Basic Learning from the Project:
1. I became an expert of ultrahigh vacuum technology.
2. I learned about controlled superstructure growth.
3. I learned thin film deposition techniques.
4. I learned about surface technology and their potential usage.
5. I learned about various surface characterization techniques.

May 2013 Dec. 2013
Undergraduate Research Trainee (PART_TIME)
Project Leader: Dr. Monika Joshi
I had worked on project titled Modification of ZnO nanorod for various electronic
applications. Main aim of our project was to study the change in ZnO nanorods electronic
behavior on its surface modification. Different concentrations of Silver nanoparticles were
used for the surface modification of ZnO nanorods. We were to synthesize ZnO nanoplates
modified by Ag through chemical route (colloidal synthesis). XRD, UV-Vis, Pl, SEM, and TEM
analysis was done to verify the quality of nanomaterial. Photo luminescence results shown
significant reduction in defect level on silver nanoparticles modification. Such kind of
properties is very much useful in LASER and other optoelectronic device fabrication. We were
able to earn 2 international conference paper and 1 accepted research paper (Materials
Focus).

Sept. 2012 Jan. 2012
Undergraduate Research Trainee (PART_TIME)
Project Leader: Dr. Monika Joshi
I had worked on project titled Fe2O3-CNT nanocomposite for sensing application. Main aim
of our project was synthesis, Characterization and sensing application of Fe2O3-CNT
nanocomposite. CNT modification with magnetic particles leads to an increment in the
sensing properties of CNT. This kind of change was attributed to free electrons provided by
Fe2O3 nanoparticles on the surface of CNT. I was responsible synthesis, characterization of
Fe2O3 nanoparticles and their composite. Also sensing was done by me in a clean room using
Electrometer. We were able earn two international conference paper based on this work.

Summer Trainee

May 2012 to June 2012

Project Leader: Dr. Harzinder Singh Laltu

I had worked on the title Computational study of gold nanoclusters for FRET application.
The main aim of the project was computational study of gold nanoclusters, their stability and
structure. We wanted to study the properties of various quantum dots that can serve as
potential candidate for accepter and donor in FRET based devices. In the project I was
responsible for computational study of 1-12 atoms gold nanoclusters using GAMESS. I used
ab-initio calculations using ECP as basis set. The output was visualized using Molden and
MacMolPlt.

Summer Trainee

May 2011 June 2011

I took 1 month industrial training in genetic engineering. I had worked on project titled
Genetic Manipulation of Tomato Plant through Agrobacterium mediated transformation.
Main aim of our project was genetic modification of Tomato with hevein gene to save tomato
plants from fungal infections. I was responsible for DNA extraction, Restriction, Digestion,
Ligation and Transformation of DNA for genetic modification of tomato plant. I also handled
PCR, SDS Page, UV-Vis, Gel Electrophoresis for result confirmation.
