Your Target
At the end of this activity, you will be able to identify the principles in teachingleaning activities, manuals and other instructional materials used by the teacher in
selected subject.

Your Ways
Learning how to apply the teaching principles in a classroom setting is something
you aspire for. Initially, you would need to observe and describe how it is manifested in
the real classroom.
To hit your target, work your way through these steps:
Step 4: Reflect on your experience.
Step 3: List down the instructional materials
used by the teacher to facilitate learning
Step 2: Observe, the cognitive, metacognitive and
motivational processes in the classroom.
Step 1: Observe at least three classes and describe the
principles of teaching and learning used by the teacher.

Your Tools
As you visit a school and observe classes, use the activity forms to document your
observation and write your insights or reflections.

OBSERVATION SHEET
Name of the School Observed: Lawang Bato National High School
School Address: Centro, St., Lawang Bato, Valenzuela City Date of Visit:
Year Level: Grade 9
Subject Area: Mathematics

1. What principles in teaching-learning were commonly used?

Learning connects strongly with communities and practice beyond the classroom.
Students should engage with their community so that they could interact properly
and to socialize without any hesitations of being alone and incompetent with the
other children while they are entering the school.

2. What instructional materials were used in teaching?

The only instructional materials that I have seen of being used was chalk, black
board, and the teachers book.

3. Which of the principles in teaching facilitate the cognitive, metacognitive, and

positive motivational processes of learning?
Mathematics is best learned when students are actively engaged. The teacher
should let the students explore his/her capability of answering the given equation
or problem to them. You must guide them on what they are doing and when they
didnt understand it, its time for you to explain furthermore until the student get
the lesson or topic.
Scribble a brief reflection of your feelings and insights from your observation
experience.
I enjoy observing the Grade 9 students special when they are actively participating
in their teacher. And when they are being humorous in their class, specially to the teacher
who will do her best so that her class would be lively.
