You DON'T have to have money to get an education. I would guess that the public
school education system in Mississippi was better then than it is now, BUT Oprah went
to school during a time of "separate but equal." (I think. The ruling of allowing Blacks to
go to White schools came down in 1956. I can't imagine, though, that the ruling was
made and every school from Arkansas, where it was started, to rural Mississippi just
began to enforce it.) Black schools were notorious for not having enough of most things
and getting the leftover from the White schools when they got new things. Yet, it was still
free, like public schools are today. And Oprah learned.
I taught in a public school in Philadelphia for 7 years in the hood. Every one of my
colleagues was an excellent teacher. If those kids had the support they needed or the
push from within themselves to learn and do well, they could be successful. Public high
schools are also free.
As for college, there are scholarships, work programs that work toward tuition, grants,
student loans, and there is the old fashioned working your way through college. I got a
student loan for both undergraduate and graduate school, both of which I have paid
back. I also worked full time while I went to graduate school. If one wants a college
education, and I believe that today it's more of a must, one can find a way.

According to me it is the technology that rules the world, so the knowledge is

more important than the money. The money comes and go and knowledge
remains with the person. He can utilize it in later life and earn money out of it.
Therefore a person has to entrust his time to earn knowledge in his growing
age rather than spending time on the earning of money. When the nation
gives more importance to education it progress well otherwise it loses its
