70th Anniversary Celebration
The open evening and school celebration will take place on Tuesday, 4th October at 7 pm. The
senior room will perform a short play and some music on the night. Looking forward to seeing you
all there.
Halloween Hike
The Halloween Hike will take place on Friday, 28th October this year. The day will consist of
Fancy Dress, a Halloween Hike down to the village (weather permitting) and Halloween games
and activities for the children in the afternoon.
Homemade Halloween Hat Competition
This year we will have a competition for the best Halloween Hat. First prize will be given in the
following class groups: Junior Infants/Senior Infant, 1st/2nd Class, 3rd/4th Class, 5th/6th
Class.
ParentTeacher Meetings
ParentTeacher Meetings will take place on Tuesday, October 25th this year. The timetable
will be sent out as soon as its organised.
Mid-Term Break
School will close on Friday, 28th October and reopen on Monday, 7th November. We wish all
families an enjoyable break.
Error in School Calendar
Please note the date in your school calendar for Christmas Holidays. School will close on
Thursday, December 22nd at 12.00 noon. Apologies for this error.
School Closure
The school will close on Thursday, 27th October for an in-service, training day in the new
Primary Language Curriculum. Due to this closure swimming for that week will take place on
Wednesday, 26th October during school hours. (11.30-1.15)
Active School
Thank you to everyone who supported our annual N.C.T. launch day and walked to school with us
on Tuesday last, the 27th September. Our Active School committee are: Faye Jordan, Kian
Foley, Ava Sky Byrne, Ronan Byrne, Anna Smith and Joe Byrne
Parents Association News and Notices
-Following the recent AGM our new Parents Association Committee consists of: Denise Foley:
Secretary, Sarah Brennan: Chairperson, Carmel Byrne and Catherine Fitzpatrick: Treasurers.
-The P.A. thank all the parents who attended their September meetings. There was a really
great turnout and some great ideas for fundraising for the year.
-The NCBI collection was another great success with 71 bags collected. Thank you for your

support.
-There will be a social dance in Dooleys Shed in Rathnure on Sunday, 30th October in aid of
the school. Tickets are on sale in the school and Mrs Foleys Shop, and there will be lots of door
prizes on the night!
-The school is still collecting your 1 & 2 cent coins if there are any about at home.
-There will be no sponsorship cards for the Halloween Hike again this year.

The BoM thank the PA for all of their hard work fundraising for the school. The cost of
swimming and school tours are heavily subsidised by this fundraising. In addition resources for
subjects are also bought throughout the year. Many thanks to everyone who gives their time so
generously for the benefit of all pupils.
Operation Christmas Child
The power of a simple gift
Anybody who wants to donate a small gift for this worthy cause can bring in small items which
will be collected and put into shoeboxes in the F.C.J. Convent, Bunclody. Gift ideas might include:
pens, pencils, colouring books, pencil cases, colouring pencils, cuddly toy, small doll, small truck
or car, hat, scarf, gloves, socks etc. The children can start bringing these items in as soon as
possible as they will be collected in early November. Thank you for your support.
Bunclody Vocational College
The BVC open day will take place on Friday, 21st October both 5th and 6th class are invited to
attend and a bus will collect them from the school on the day.
Sing Out Loud
The senior room are practicing their songs and looking forward to their performance in the
National Opera House in Wexford, on Thursday, the 24th November at 7.30pm. Order form for
tickets is enclosed.
