Mimaki JV5 series Caldera Driver Technical Notes

Valid for Mimaki JV5-160S and JV5-130S.

Supported resolutions and passes

To simplify the user's experience, we don't provide every resolution potentially availabl, but only a
relevant subset of them. Moreover, not every resolution and passes combination is available. So the
following table show available modes, plus the high-speed head moving availablility :

Specific parameters
Here is an explanation of every specific parameters provided in Caldera RIP for the JV5 series.

Cut media : use the internal cutter at the end of the job. Be careful, this cutter is only able to cut
vinyles and papers. Cutting textiles and banners will usually fail.

High Speed : controls the speed of the head movement. This parameter should usually be
enabled. If it is set and the resolution and passes combination doesn't allow it, it will
automatically be ignored.

Refresh Level : onprint head cleaning frequency. Unchecking it will force the use of the
printer's panel settings.

Print color pattern : prints the color stripe on the edge to prevent nozzle drying. Be sure to use
the proper loading to get the right margins ( "RollxxCP" over "Rollxx" ).

Scan with : amplitude of the head movement when the job width is smaller than the printer's
width. Usually keep the "Printer" setting to ensure printing quality.

Dot type : "Automatic" setting uses the full variable dot set, whereas other settings force the use
of only one of the available drop sizes. This parameter should be kept to "Automatic"in
production. Others settings will change the ink amount an calibration.

Media parameters
Some parameters are specific to the media. Unchecking them will force the use of the printer's panel
parameters.

Temperatures : temperatures for the three heaters.

Feed adjust : adjust the media advance compensation to prevent banding. Default setting is 0.

Overprint : put more ink on the media. Normal setting is 1.

Drying time per scan : pause between the passes to improve ink drying. Default setting is 0.

Absorbtion fan : strength of the drying fan.

Drying time : pause at the end of the job to allow the ink to dry.

Printing speed issues

Please note that the 540x1080-6 pass can achieve a ~40 m / h printing speed. Sometimes the use of
Caldera's "Rip-on-the-Fly" feature ( Action = "Print" ) on complex Postscript jobs will lead to
gradually slowing down head movements. To avoid it, we advise using "Compute Reprint then
Print" when necessary. Also avoid using bilinear interpolation with Postscript files.
