Textbook(s): Young, D. F.; Munson, B. R.; Okiishi,T. H. and Huebsch, Wade W. Introduction
to Fluid Mechanics, 5th ed. New York: John Wiley & Sons Inc. (2012) &
Fluid Mechanics Laboratory Notes
References: White, F. M., Fluid Mechanics, 6th ed., McGraw-Hill, 2008

Course Objectives:
1. Introduce concepts, principles, laws, observations, and models of fluids at rest and in motion
2. Provide basis for understanding fluid behavior and for engineering design and control of
fluid systems
3. Develop competence with mass, energy and momentum balances for determining resultant
interactions of flows and engineered and natural systems
4. Develop bases for correlating experimental data and using scale models of fluid flows
5. Learn methods for computing head losses and flows in simple pipes

Course Learning Outcomes (CLO):

CLO-1. the students will develop a firm understanding of fluid properties and systems of units
CLO-2. the students will be able to compute hydrostatic forces on submerged objects
CLO-3. they will understand control-volume concept and continuity equation
CLO-4. they will understand energy principal and Euler and Bernoulli equations, and application
of basic principles to flow of ideal and real fluids
CLO-5. they will understand momentum principal and be able to compute all forces (i.e., surface
forces and body forces) acting on control-volume material
CLO-6. they will learn how to use dimensional analysis to analyze more complex fluid problems
with the concentration on the presentation of experimental fluid-mechanics data.
