Citi Campus Innovation Challenge 2016

Reimagine Banking in 2020

Banking in India has evolved rapidly in the last few years, driven by a combination of factors
changing consumer expectations, a progressive regulatory environment, and several high
impact Government initiatives. The Indian consumer now demands instant access to banking,
enabled by widespread Internet and smartphone penetration. The regulator has launched
transformational payment technologies like Unified Payments Interface and Bharat Bill Pay
System, and has opened up banking to prepaid wallets, payments banks and on-tap license
applicants. The Government has rolled out initiatives like Jan Dhan Yojana, Direct Benefit
Transfer and Aadhaar with a vision of building a less-cash society and providing universal access
to formal banking. These have together led to banks and FinTech players developing multiple
innovative products, and redefining the way the modern consumer conducts banking.
These simultaneous developments and the next wave of disruptions and innovations are poised
to fundamentally alter the banking industry in the years to come. Your teams task is to
Reimagine Banking in the year 2020 and tell us how you would set up a bank if your team
received an on-tap bank license today.
Your new-age bank should be able to cater to your clients banking needs across their banking
lifecycle onboarding, engaging/servicing, transacting and accessing credit. Tell us how you
would structure your banks technology and product suite, how your clients will conduct
banking, and what regulatory/policy changes you would recommend.
