to create Urban Sprawl.
By 1926, 1 in 6 Americans owned a car

people traveling from in and out of the city became much

easier and more common


People now could live outside the city and commute to work

To do this, many people used brand new methods


of payments:

Newspapers soon got into the advertising game

Advertisers reached millions of consumers

They hired movie stars and sports figures to persuade

Americans to buy all types of products, from coffee to


tobacco products.
It was said that Business had become America's secular
religion, thanks to advertising.
