AN ACT PROVIDING BICYCLE LANES IN NATIONAL HIGHWAYS

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Be it enacted by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the Philippines in
Congress assembled.
Section 1. Title - This act shall be known as Bicycle Lanes Act
Section 2. Declaration of Policy It is the policy of the state to protect the safety
and welfare of riding public. This act aims to apply said policy by providing an area
for cyclists to travel safely and efficiently.
Section 3. Definition of Terms a. Bicycle - a two-wheeled non-electric powered vehicle
b. Bicycle lane a One and a Half (1.5) meter width of road on a lane
exclusively for bicycles
c. Curb a stone or concreting edging on a road
d. Cyclist a bicycle rider
e. National Highway roads declared as national roads including rights-ofway, bridges, ferries, drainage structures, signs, guard rails, and
protective structures in connection with highways
Section 4. Establishment of Bicycle Lane There shall be One and a Half (1.5)
meter width in each side of the National Roads, in between the curb and the
pavement lane for motor vehicles, for the cyclists where they can safely ride their
bicycles. Such lane shall be known as the Bicycle Lane and shall be exclusively used
in travelling on a bicycle.
Section 5. Repealing Clause - All laws, decrees, executive orders, department or
memorandum orders and other administrative issuances or parts thereof which are
inconsistent with the provisions of this Act are hereby modified, superseded or
repealed accordingly.

Section 6. Effectivity This act shall take effect Fifteen (15) days after following the
completion of its publication in the Official Gazette or in at least two (2) newspapers
of general circulation in the Philippines.
