Manufacturing Process
Precision welded ERW (Electric Resistance Welding) conduit pipes are manufactured by the High Frequency process on
imported Automatic Plant. Here is a brief summarization of our manufacturing process:

HR Coils which are used as raw materials are fed into the rolling mill.

Thereafter formation into pipes, welding, cooling, sizing and cutting is done into required lengths by an automatic process.
The plant is equipped with Servo Control which ensures smooth and uniform welding.

Trademark RMCON and ISI are embossed at every one meter intervals.

Threading: Each length of tube is threaded at both the ends by Lanco Threaded Machines using ISO Metric Thread Chasers
having a pitch of 1.5mm & the length of thread is maintained within limits.

Coating Process:
a. Black Painting process for Medium Protection Rigid Steel Conduit.
b. Hot Dip Galvanizing Process for High Protection Galvanized Rigid Steel Conduit.
# Details of coating process given on the following page.

Finally the painted or galvanized pipes are labelled with stickers mentioning the RMCON Trademark, the ISI mark and
the size of outside diameter.

The pipes are then covered with plastic tube and packed with hessian cloth.
2

Coating Process
(a) Painting Process (for Medium Protection)
Painting is undertaken in respect of black medium protection Rigid Steel Conduits after the tube is formed from raw material HR coil with
the help of induction tube welding technology. Both the ends of the pipe are faced with the help of tools and the threads are formed at
both the ends of the pipe and at one end a suitable coupler is fixed. After cleaning, the pipes are then dipped into a painting tank in a
slanting manner so that the inner surface of the pipes also get painted and pipes are kept fully dipped into the tank till the bubbles / air
trapped inside the pipes is fully taken care of. After this the pipes are put vertically on stand again in a slightly slanting manner so that excess
paint get removed and gets drained into the painting tank. After this the paint is left to dry overnight and next day, after chemical and
physical inspection the painted pipes are packed into the bundles.

(b) Galvanization Process (for High Protection)

Properties of Steel Conduits:

Today's buildings are designed for life span 50-80 years and steel conduits last at least as long, making it the essential component of
modern electrical system. Steel conduit resists all common forms of wear and tear to ensure long lasting performance. Steel conduit
supports green building practices by helping reduce environmental impact throughout a buildings life cycle & contributes to
sustainability through waste reduction, resource conservation & reusability. Because of its ability to protect against electromagnetic
interference, you can rely on steel conduit for virtually all applications with highly sensitive computers & data.

Some of the major properties of our RMCON make Rigid Steel Conduit are as follows:
1. Durability
a.
b.
c.

Strength to withstand mechanical injury.

Superior Corrosion Protection.
Lifelong EMI shielding

2. Fire Resistance
a.

GI & MS conduits are considered Non combustible by building codes.

Steel conduits do not add to fuel load or flame spread.

3. Sustainability
a.
b.
c.

Long service life- Some steel conduits have been in use for more than 60 years.
Ability to accommodate new conductors and additional circuits over time.
Total recyclability as steel is the world's most recycled material

4. Others
a.
b.
c.

Protection against impact at all temperatures.

Provides an excellent electrical path to ground, to eliminate the need for supplementary equipment
for grounding.
Compatible coefficient of expansion with most construction material.

The cost advantage of Steel Conduit

The ability to future proof the electrical system by using steel conduit lowers the total cost of the system during its life span. Today, the
need to replace or upgrade power, data and communications circuits can happen overnight. Requirements for more sophisticated
electronic equipment, increased power requirements or new applications can cause owners and tenants to demand changes in the
wiring of their plants, retail complexes or buildings. Steel conduit is adaptable and can accommodate these changes, making it easier
to pull out old wiring and install new systems. Steel conduit also provides the quickest and most efficient changeover or upgrading of
electrical conductors. It all adds up to make steel conduit the most cost-effective wiring method over time and this is only one of the
many benefits steel conduit provides.

Testing & Quality Control

RMCON follows a very stringent quality assurance plan on every level of the Organization. Conduits & Accessories are
subjected to severe testing and quality control check both during and after production. The comprehensive quality control
testing guarantees that the conduit will perform satisfactorily in the application and ensures unmatched quality and
performance in industry. The quality control plan of RMCON comprises of raw material testing, on line testing & finally testing
of finished goods.

Raw Material Testing

(a) Each lot of Raw material is allotted a lot No so that traceability & its corelation with finished goods lot is available as &
when required in the factory
(b) Naked eye examination of H.R Coils of every lot is carried out to ensure that these are free from cut edges, Burrs,
Lamination or discoloration etc.
(c) The H.R Coil of every lot are routinely measured for wall thickness & width before the lot of Raw Material is approved to
be use for manufacturing the Rigid Steel conduits.

Online Testing of conduits

(a) Minimum Outer Diameter: Testing of Raw Conduits with the help of calibrated 'Go-No-Go' guages for maintaining the
proper minimum Outer Diameter is regularly done at every one hour interval.
(b) Maximum Outer Diameter: Testing of Raw conduits by calibrated 'Go-No-Go' guages is done for maintaining the
maximum Outer diameter at every one hour interval.
(c) Naked eye examination of Raw Tubes: Each & every raw conduit is checked with naked eye or with corrected vision so as
to ensure that the outer & inner surfaces are smooth & there are no open seams along the welding line & tool finish is
satisfactory.
(d) Controlling of Internal & External Beads: The internal Beads formations along the line of welding are controlled & kept
to the minimum possible extent without compromising with weld strength as the Internal bead is likely to damage the
Electrical Wires. Further the External Beads are removed by scrapping at the tool post.

Finished Goods Testing

Each and every lot of RMCON make steel conduits is tested as per scheme of testing & Inspection prescribed by Bureau of Indian
Standards (BIS). We have complete testing facilities for carrying out all the tests as per IS: 9537 (Part-2): 1981. The following tests are
routinely performed on steel conduits & fittings manufactured by us.
