Introduction
CSR Gyprock Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems
provide a higher degree of soft body impact resistance, that
is, resistance to the bumps and knocks which occur in high
traffic public buildings every day.
An important element in CSR Gyprock Impact Damage
Resistant Wall Systems is CSR Gyprock Impactchek,
which is a purpose designed fibreglass bonded and mesh
reinforced plasterboard that exceeds the requirements of
the Building Code of Australia (BCA) for soft body impact
resistance.
Impact damage resistance is not directly related to acoustic
performance, and acoustic requirements should be
addressed as an additional issue where appropriate.
Advantages
Soft body impact resistance in excess of the BCA strength
requirements.
Can be used in fire rated systems.
Can be used together with
standard 13mm plasterboard.
Can be used effectively in
acoustic wall systems.
Easy to install.
Saves time and money compared
to other impact resistant wall
systems.
Uses standard plasterboard
fasteners and fixing methods.
Easy to joint and finish using
Applications
Gyprock Impactchek plasterboard has been primarily
developed for use in areas that are required to be resistant
to soft body impact in accordance with the Building Code
of Australia Clause C1.8.
Although the highest impact damage resistance is only
required by the BCA in some Class 9 Building situations,
the inherent impact resistance of Gyprock Impactchek
plasterboard makes it ideal for all areas of high pedestrian
traffic in all building types, and it should be used wherever
there is a risk of impact damage. These risk areas include
corridors, foyers and stair shafts in commercial buildings,
shopping centres, cinemas, offices, sports stadiums,
schools, hospitals and nursing homes, and walls in public
transport structures such as railway stations or bus and
airport terminals.
Gyprock Impactchek plasterboard can also be used in
fire rated wall systems with a fire rating level (FRL) of up to
120/120/120 where higher impact damage resistance is
also required.
Gyprock Impactchek is also useful in acoustic wall systems
given the products high density.

Framing
Steel or timber framing must comply with the relevant
specifications detailed in the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic
Design Guide, NGYP500.
Plasterboard
Installation
FIXING
PROTECTION DURING
CONSTRUCTION.
All assemblies shall be suitably protected from exposure to
excessive moisture during installation to avoid water damage
to the Gyprock Impactchek plasterboard.
CUTTING.
It is recommended that Gyprock Impactchek be cut from
the back of the sheet (mesh reinforced side) to avoid tearing
of the backing paper.
FRAMING.
*Single/staggered/double row stud wall framing shall consist
of lipped steel studs *...........mm x .................BMT installed
at ............mm maximum centres into steel floor and ceiling
track *........... x 32mm x ........... BMT.
*Single/staggered/double row stud wall framing shall consist
of timber studs ...........mm x .................installed at ............
mm maximum centres (on top and bottom plates of ...........
mm x ...........mm).
PLASTERBOARD.
The framing shall be lined on the first side with one layer of
*...........mm CSR Gyprock .......... plasterboard.
The second side of the framing shall be lined with one layer
of *...........mm CSR Gyprock .................... plasterboard.
Architectural
Specification
SCOPE.
The contractor shall furnish all materials, labour and
equipment for the installation and jointing of the CSR
Gyprock Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems where
indicated on the drawings and/or as specified.
MATERIALS.
All lining materials shall be CSR Gyprock plasterboard and
Gyprock Impact Damage Resistant Wall Systems
PLASTERBOARD FIXING.
All layers shall be fixed to the framing as specified for the relevant
system in the CSR Gyprock Fire & Acoustic Design Guide,
NGYP500, and other relevant CSR Gyprock Installation Guides.
