RAINWATER GUTTERING
A home needs a rainwater guttering system in order to drain water quickly and safely away from the
roof. A well-installed system can save you money, by avoiding the cost of cleaning and repainting
exterior walls and floors. It also reduces the accumulation of moisture from under the house, helping
to protect landscaping & the perimeter of the house from the growth of moss & unsightly fungi that
can also cause accidents.

Why choose Biggy?

Because it's...

Functional: The gutter's design accommodates the maximum flow of water off 2000 square ft
of roof area per running outlet.

Hassle Free: Biggy is easily installed; the fittings are lightweight and snap together without the
use of solvents, as is done with other guttering systems.

Unique: All gasketed gutter fittings are equipped with a unique expansion gap, which allows for
movement of the gutter under high and low temperatures, since pvc expands with heat.

Attractive: Biggy's sleek contour adds a professional finish to any property. It can also be painted
to match the colour scheme of your roof and exterior walls.

Long Lasting: Biggy is highly durable to withstand the elements that characterize a tropical
climate. It contains special UV stabilisers that guard against the harsh rays of the sun, and therefore
prevent cracking and discoloration.

Cost Effective: Biggy is competitively priced against other similar PVC, galvanize and aluminium
systems.

GUTTERING

Step 1. Calculate Area of Roof to be Drained

A
Make a sketch of the roof area where the gutter will be installed.
Calculate the effective roof area, using the following formula (which allows
for contributing factors such as roof pitch and wind direction)
1. Measure A, B & C (see sketch)

2. (A+B/2)xC= Effective roof area.

Step 2. Number and Location of Downpipes

Install one (1) down pipe for each effective roof area less than or equal to 2,000 sq ft or 185 m2.

Step 3: Water Flow

For best drainage of water:
Place a high point on the barge board, leaving a margin of
25mm below the top of the roof:
Run a chalk line from the high point on the barge board, leaving
a gradient of 3mm for each length of gutter (4m) to the downpipe.

Point

Fix a line level onto the chalk line, and ensure for level. If not
level, lower the high end until it is.
Mark line on the barge board by pressing the chalk line against
it with one hand while pulling and releasing it with the other.
Remove chalk line.

Step 4. Install the Running outlet

Roof

Fix running outlet as determined in Step 2. This has to be

installed at the lowest point of the guideline on the barge board.
Make sure the running outlet is not installed at the extreme low
end of the barge board.

Step 7. Install Dual Mount Angle

Fix each gutter support at least 1m apart, and place notch

onto chalk guideline to ensure proper flow.

Fix a dual mount angle for each internal

or external angle of 90, and place a
gutter support at each side with a
maximum distance of 150mm.

Step 8. Install Gutter to Downpipe

Connect the running outlet to the
downpipe by using a connector or
pipe bend 112. Outlet must be
placed to the wider end of the pipe
bend, while the other end fits into
the downpipe.

On galvanised roofs, if overhang is

more than 75% of width of the gutter,
use spacer blocks to advance gutter
support towards the galvanise edge.
If necessary use as many as (3)
blocks, one on top of the other, with
longer screws.

To install gutter, adjust it to the gutter support,

(a) engage back edge of gutter, (b) pull down front of gutter,
then (c) snap front of gutter over its edge. Fix one stop end
on either side of the gutter run.

Important: The larger end of the

pipe connector must face upwards

Step 9. Install Downpipe

Position of the gutter: The gutter must be centered just under

the end of the roof, especially if the roof drains high volumes
of water.

Secure the downpipe to the

wall, installing:
One (1) pipe clip fixed in
the highest point of the
downpipe.

Step 6. Joining Gutter to Gutter
Join lengths of gutter with a joint bracket; all screws must fall
directly onto the chalk line.
PVC expands with heat, so fit each length
of gutter to the joint bracket at 12mm
Expansion Gap
(1/2) short of the line indicated on
bracket for expansion gap.
Thermal Movement: U-PVC
expands and contracts with
temperature changes. Biggy
accessories have been designed to
accommodate this movement without
affecting the efficiency of the system.

Pipe Clip

Vertical pipe must be

supported at least every
two (2) meters.
Place a shoe at the end
of the downpipe, to allow
water to flow out in a
controlled manner. Fix the
shoe with a pipe clip.

Step 10. Maintenance of Biggy Gutter System

The Biggy rainwater system is easy to maintain. However, an
annual cleaning of leaves and dust is necessary in order to
guard against any blockages.
