Medieval manuscripts
I am interested in how to scan medieval manuscripts so
that a researcher could both read the content
and study the scribes hand, special markings, and so on.
A related issue is how to transmit such images.
Edgar corporate data
Increasingly the government is using the WWW as a tool
for dissemination of information. Two much- used sites
are the Edgar database of corporate infor- mation
(http://www.sec.gov/edgarhp.htm) and the
Bureau of the Census (http://www.census.gov). Part of the
problem is that some information (particularly that at the
Edgar site) is available only as ASCII files. For textual
information, the formatting of statistical tables is often
lost in downloading, e-mailing, or transferring to statistical
programs. While this infor- mation is useful for the typical
library researcher, it is often too much trouble to put it in a
usable format.
