Technical description

Vacuum circuit-breaker ECA on

drawing unit with transport trolley

Switchgear panel with drawing unit

The air-insulated metal-clad switchgear panels feature space-saving
slide-in modular design. Existing
switchgear stations can be extended on both sides.
Due to the functional front design,
individual access to each function
chamber within the switchgear panels is extremely easy from the front
side.
The switchgear panels are subdivided into four function chambers, including the low-voltage cubicle, and
metal enclosed against one another.
The function chambers busbar
compartment, circuit-breaker compartment and cable connection
compartment are equipped with
separate pressure relief devices directed upwards.
Vacuum circuit-breakers ECA in
standard design (no panel-specific
design) are used as switching devices. The AHA system is complemented, amongst other things, by a vacuum contactor, measuring and disconnecting drawing units. The switching devices are installed on easyto-operate drawing units. Handling
of the drawing units within the panels is possible with minimum effort
due to an innovative transfer device
of twin-scissor design with dead
centre in operating position, requiring minimum effort only.
8

This design significantly facilitates

transfer of the drawing units and is
particularly useful for heavy-current
panels. The vacuum circuit breakers
ECA can be switched ON and OFF
mechanically with the panel door
closed, in operating and disconnected position. The circuit-breaker
energy store mechanism is always
motorized. For testing purposes, the
motorized energy store mechanism
can be tensioned, and the circuitbreaker switched on or off mechanically (by hand) with the panel door
opened.

Earthing switch
The make-proof earthing switch in
the outgoing feeder block or on the
busbar is switched on and off using
the detachable lever. In the case of
a motor-driven earthing switch, mechanical actuation is possible with
the panel front closed.

Direct coupling between the contact

elements of the main circuit and the
auxiliary switches, and an extreme
extension for the status messages
ensure precise emulation of the
main circuit in question.

Transfer of the drawing unit

The drawing unit is transferred from
operating into disconnected position
and vice versa in manual mode
with the panel door closed. This
procedure can also be implemented
with the panel door opened, for
testing purposes. When the drawing unit is equipped with motorized
transfer device, a manual emergency mode is available.
Identically equipped drawing units
are interchangeable. Outside the
switchgear panels, the drawing
units are moved on easy-to-handle
trolleys.

Remote control feature

Transfer of drawing unit

The dimensionally stable transport

trolley which serves to move the
drawing unit when outside the
panel, is equipped with casters.
Handling is comparable to that of a
switching truck.

The basic model of the ECA circuitbreakers is equipped with a motorized spring charging mechanism for
the spring energy store mechanism,
and one closing and opening coil
each. The transfer device for the
drawing units and the earthing switches for outgoing feeders can be
equipped optionally to provide remote control features.
9

Shutter
Metallic shutters are installed in
front of the fixed moving contacts.
Intentional opening of these separately for the top or lower shutter
is only possible using the specific
shutter lifting device. When the
drawing unit has been moved out,
each shutter can be closed individually (padlock).

Primary cable connection

AHA permits extremely space-saving and economical building concepts. AHA has been designed so
that even for heavy-current panels,
neither additional cable connection
panels nor catwalks are required
behind the switchgear stations.
The cable connection compartment
is accessible through a separate
door from the panel front side. The
horizontal partition between the circuit-breaker and the cable connection compartment is easily removable for assembly of the cable end
boxes. Depending on the remaining
equipment of the cable connection
compartment and on the size of the
cable end boxes used, the following
cable connections are possible:
up to 3 x 7 cables
500 mm2 each
up to 6 cables
800 mm2 each

Metallic shutter for busbar

system and outgoing feeder compartment

Low-voltage cubicle
The low-voltage cubicle accommodates the secondary equipment for
protection relays, control, measuring, metering and other systems.
The low-voltage cubicle which has
been systematically separated from
the primary section is shockproof
and resistant to accidental arcs. It is
an independent, closed low-voltage
compartment with mechanical and
electrical interface to the panel rack
(screwed plug-and-socket connection). A unique advantage for the
operator is the clear separation between the rack and the low-voltage
cubicle.

View of an open low-voltage

cubicle

Subsequent fitting of spare panels

and conversion or replacement of
complete low-voltage cubicles (e.g.
due to process changes) can also
be accomplished without any problems. The switchgear panel is completely enclosed even without topmounted low-voltage cubicle (IP3X).
The torsion-resistant door of the lowvoltage cubicle can be equipped
optionally with inspection windows,
or to house measuring and control
devices, and protection relays.

External secondary lines are only introduced into the front panel area
from the bottom. The secondary
lines are laid in a cable duct which
is metallically screened against the
medium-voltage section from the
bottom edge of the panel up to the
low-voltage cubicle.

Low-voltage connector
The electrical low-voltage connection between the fixed part and the
drawing unit is established via a
max. 64-pin connector. The connector top section is an integral part of
the rack and can be pulled forward
and off. The connector base is an
integral part of the drawing unit.
The rack is equipped with a separate storage recess for extremely simple storage of the connector top,
above the front side of the drawing
unit.

IVIS display with indicating functions: conductors

L1, L2, L3; voltage present

The electronic IVIS system is an integrated VDS system according to

IEC 61 234-5 and DIN VDE 0682,
part 415. To check for safe isolation, IVIS does not require any auxiliary power. With IVIS, electrical repeat tests are not necessary. The verification of terminal connections is
effected using the IVIS phase monitor MS.

Cable testing

primary connections can be disconnected from or connected to the

busbars quite easily by means of
the flexible primary cables. Visual
inspections of the cable connection
compartment are possible through
the inspection window installed in
the cable compartment door as
standard.

Application of instrumentation and control (I&C)

AHA is optimally suited for operation with switchgear I&C systems.
All switching devices on the drawing units, the outgoing earthing
switch and the drawing unit as such
can be remote controlled. The use
of the intelligent Management Online Systems (e.g. IMOS, manufactured by ALSTOM Sachsenwerk)
which assume all control and monitoring duties, affords a high degree
of automatation which enhances
safety as well as reliability, and facilitates the operators tasks.

Cable DC or AC voltage tests can

Checking for safe isolation

from supply and verification
of terminal connections
AHA is equipped with the Voltage
Detection System VDS IVIS manufactured by ALSTOM Sachsenwerk.
The check for safe isolation from
supply and verification of terminal
connections is effected with the
panel front closed. The stationary
IVIS display shows, directly adjacent to the actuating devices for the
outgoing earthing switch, and simultaneously for all conductors
11

Internal interlocks of switchgear station

The AHA switchgear panels are
equipped with interrogator locks
which only allow admissible actuations. These powerless interrogator
locks reliably prevent insertion of
the operating crank if the operating
states of the switchgear device do
not so permit. Inadmissibly high actuating forces are thus prevented
from acting on locked switching devices right from the start.
The mechanical internal interrogator
lock in the panel integrates circuitbreaker, drawing unit, low-voltage
connector and earthing switch for
outgoing feeder as follows:

Rack concept
The extremely sturdy, torsion-resistant panel rack consists of four
single modules: Front mounting
frame, rear panel, bottom assembly,
and top cover.
Double-walled partitions (sheetmetal - air - sheet-metal) considerably increase the operating safety of
the switchgear and meet the operating requirement for heavy-duty
switchgear particularly well.
The patented lifting doors for the circuit breaker and cable connection
compartments lock into the panel
rack on all sides, and are thus extremely pressure-proof.

Characteristics in the case of

an internal fault
The AHA switchgear panels have
been tested successfully for their
characteristics in the case of an internal fault, at rated short-time withstand currents up to 50 kA over a
period of 1 second according to
IEC 60298, Appendix AA, VDE
0670, Part 6, Annex AA, and according to PEHLA Directives no. 4
(criteria 1-6).
Thanks to a pressure relief and gas
cooling system developed specifically for AHA, the criteria 1-6 can
even be warranted at high rated
short-time withstand currents up to
50 kA (1 second) and at low room
heights. To minimize the effects of
malfunctions (in the case of an internal fault), IEC 60298/VDE 0670,
part 6, recommends among other
things measures to limit the arc duration. Use of the optional safety system ILIS made by ALSTOM Sachsenwerk achieves a maximum level
of personal safety, and the effects of
malfunctions on the environment are
reduced to a very large extent.

ILIS evaluator

In the case of AHA switchgear

equipped with the ILIS system an
internal fault is switched off within
max. 100 ms independently of
the grading time of the network master relay, which may be higher.
We recommend use of the ILIS safety system in AHA switchgear stations especially in the higher network data range.

Delivery

Packing

The switchgear is delivered ready

for connection in terms of individual
panels. Ring circuits connecting the
various panels are installed on site.

For truck transport

Open packing.
Switchgear panels on pallets with
PE protection film.
For sea transport
For sea-worthy transport, packing is
effected in welded aluminium film
with desiccant, and in a closed box
with leakage-proof wooden base
(also for transport in containers).
For air transport
In the case of air freight, the switchgear panels are packed in wooden
crates with closed wooden bases,
and with a protective hood (dust
protection) of PE film, or in wooden
boxes, also with closed wooden
base, however without protective
hoods (dust protection).
