Extra-curricular should be made compulsory in schools.

Extra-curricular activities are considered as activities that take place outside of

school hours. Some pupils may play different type of games and instruments after school
hours as their extra-curricular activities. There are also programmes within the school
vicinity that will be organised and regulated by the school. Extra-curricular activities are
normally run after school hours and certain of them can also take place during the weekend.
In my opinion, I believe that there are many advantages in participating in extra-curricular
activities because it will become beneficial later in life. Those activities will help the students
to be more socialable, increase their knowledge about new things and be a better person
and also increase their motivation to attend to school.
Extra-curricular activities should be made compulsory in schools because it can
increase students sociability. Extra-curricular activities are crucial ability for personal
development of a child. Activities range from athletics, sports, scouts, girl guides, debating,
music, arts and also paramilitary cadets like the cadets. This is because by involving in
extra-curricular, they can develop positive attitudes such as punctuality, cooperation and
virtuous personalities. Moreover, students are able to make friends or becoming a part of a
group because extra-curricular activities are one of the way to bind with different people and
fuels self-confidence and team spirit. Extra-curricular also create a better atmosphere for
students of different and diverse backgrounds to release the stress of studying for a short
period of time.
Besides, learning new things is one of the reasons why extra-curricular activities
should be made compulsory in schools. They will learn more about cultural differences and
becoming friends regardless of differences in race, religion and gender. Therefore, extracurricular is a platform for students of different races to mingle freely without prejudice and
suspicion. They can learn about the different festivals their friends celebrates, rites and
rituals and places of worship. When they understand how others live, they will also know
how to treat them with respect and create a better understanding. Thus, they will be aware
of the differences and take the opportunities to integrate such as in sports and competitions.
Apart from that, extra-curricular can be a better motivation for students to attend
school. This is because students need to spend some time on extra-curricular activiities in
addition to school work. Academic subjects and extra-curricular activities complement each
other because education is not all about grades and information in books but also the
experiences skills and information that one receives in his daily life. Furthermore, by
involving in extra-curricular, students will feel motivated and are emotionally better off. For
example, students who only care about studying and good grades can be in a club for
studying or something related to their subjects to help them improve in their studies and
this will benefit them. Therefore, students will ready to face challenges because they have
been exposed to a variety of different subjects in school and life.
In conclusion, there are numerous advantages by taking part in extra-curricular
activities in school. Students who are involved in extra-curricular tend to become socially
well-balanced either in academics or sports. These activities increase students knowledge
about new things. They learn useful new skills from their chosen activity and integrating
these skills into their every day school lives, they learn time management, critical thinking,
team work and social skills. These skills will help in their readiness to face the hardships of

life in school and beyond. Hence, students should be encouraged to participate in activities
as they create a better-adjusted, well-rounded and motivated individual for society and
country.
