GAME #5
Pittsburgh 31, New York 13
October 9, 2016
Heinz Field (66,385)
PITTSBURGH - The Steelers defense pitched a second-half
shutout and the offense scored 17 second-half points to lift the team
to a 31-13 victory over the New York Jets at Heinz Field.
The Jets scored the first points of the contest when K Nick Folk
connected on a 35-yard field goal. On the Steelers first possession
of the game, QB Ben Roethlisberger threw a 72-yard touchdown
pass to WR Sammie Coates to give the Steelers a 7-3 advantage.
New York scored 10 unanswered points. Folk made a 48-yard field
goal, and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to
WR Brandon Marshall to give the Jets a 13-7 lead. It would be the
last points the Jets would score.
Roethlisberger threw a one-yard touchdown pass to TE Jesse
James prior to halftime, and the Steelers took a 14-13 lead into the
break.
The second half belonged to Pittsburgh. K Chris Boswell made
a 47-yard field goal early in the third quarter. Roethlisberger threw
two fourth-quarter touchdowns, a five-yarder to WR Antonio Brown
and a five-yarder to Coates to seal the victory for Pittsburgh.
The Steelers defense did not allow a single third-down conversion
in the second half, and they held the Jets to just 100 net yards in
the final two quarters. LB Vince Williams led the defense with nine
tackles, and he added one sack.
