Flexible conductor checking:

1. Mainly GTP of Flexible conductor needs to be checked. There are chemical, mechanical & electrical
properties. The following electrical properties are to be included:
i) Continuous operating temperature
ii) Maximum permissible temperature for 1/3 s
iii) Ampacity/Rated Continuous Current
iv) Maximum Short Circuit Current
v) Conductivity as per IACS(International Annealed Copper Standard)
Item no. (i),(ii),(iii),9iv) must match with that of in the Bus sizing calculation.
2. There shall be QAP,The QAP must include:
In the Acceptance Test article the following test is to be included:
a) DC resistance test of the conductor ( for ACSR Finch, ACSR Mallard & Hi-TACSR)
In the Raw Material Inspection stage of the QAP, the following test is to be included:
b) Chemical Composition test of Raw materials(i.e. Aluminum & Steel wires/Rod)
Lay ratio: The lay ratio is the ratio of the length of one helix revolution to the wire diameter.
Wrapping Test for Conductors
This test is done on aluminum wire used as conductor in power cables to determine its ductility. Ductility of a
conductor is nothing but the property of how easily it can be wound and twisted. Higher the ductility, easily the
material can be wound and twisted without its breaking. This property plays significant role during manufacturing and
installation process where the cable is subjected to torsion due to axial twist and might break. Hence , this wrapping
test ensure suitability of aluminum as cable conductor.Procedure
The specimen wire is wrapped round its own diameter to form closed helix of 8-6 turns and then unwrapped.
Repeat the previous step 2-3 times.
If the wire does not break, it can be said it is ductile enough.
