Curriculum Development

*REFLECT
1. Which of the curriculum design do you prefer? Why?
- I choose two (2) curriculum design, the learner-centered and
experience-centered design. I choose learner-centered design
because it gives prior importance to the learner as part of the
educative process. It acknowledges the learners need, individual
differences, learning styles, multiple-intelligences, and development
which drive the curriculum. I choose experience-centered design
because for the experience is the best teacher and empower
students through ownership of knowledge. Experience learners
already possessed when they entered school, and was essentially
the starting point for all further learning.
2. If there is a need to modify something in your college curriculum,
in what aspects are these? How?
- My personal opinion is that both teachers and students be involved
in the development of curriculum. As students know better what
they want to study in a subject and what is expected of them in the
job of their choice. Their suggestion with the moderation of
teachers may take shape of a curriculum which provides both a
solid knowledge and skill base, and also meets the aspirations of
the students. It will motivate students to learn in a happy
environment wherein knowledge and skill are not imposed but
willfully are learnt. It means to inculcate creativity in students.
3. What is the impact of curriculum design in teaching and learning?
- These are the means by which students will engage with the syllabus, the
kinds of learning experience that the curriculum will entail. Although they will
include the teaching that students will experience (lectures, laboratory
classes, fieldwork etc.) it is important to keep in mind that the overall
emphasis should be on learning and the ways it can be helped to occur. T he

learners can gain informations. Curriculum refers to principle

driven actions and processes that guide and foster significant
learning experiences. It is a planned, thoughtful and deliberate
course of actions that ultimately enhance the quality and impact of
the learning experience for students.

4. Will the varied designs make a difference in the way you teach or
the way you earn? Why?
- Yes, the varied designs can make a difference in the way it is taught
or earned and it only depends with the person on the receiving end.

*TAKE ACTION
1. Compare the difference between Regular Basic Education
Curriculum (BEC) and K to 12 Curriculum:
- RBEC which sets the standards for what your students should learn
in basic education, it spells out the knowledge, skills, habits and
attitudes that your students should learn under your guidance. It is
your guide in what to teach, in whatever grade/year level you are
assigned. Teachers are meant to guide and help the students understand the
material, and one of the best things about K-12 Curriculum is that it offers
opportunities for students to learn about modern yet rarely tapped fields of
specialization or skills, The new curriculum, K to 12 or K12 show means for
Kinder, 6 years in elementary, 4 years in Junior high school and additional two
years in Senior high school. Unlike to the old curriculum, children ages 5 to 6
years old must be enrolled in Kinder even in public schools and students in high
school must enroll in additional two years in high school for the reason that they
can find a job even not taking tertiary education.
