IS GLOBAL SOLIDARITY

POSSIBLE?
Is Global Solidarity Possible? Well, I suppose it might be.
Nonetheless, there are probably some universal standards that a
vast majority of humans would agree upon. Don't eat your
children, for example, and probably quite a few others I dare not
elaborate upon, out of fear of the Quota censors. Take the base
standards as common ground, and build upon them.
I don't think it's enough, however, to call it solidarity if we merely
have a set of axioms (like don't eat your, or anybody else's,
children) in which nearly everyone believes. There must be a
common goal that we wish to strive toward, and guiding
principles leading on the path toward that end. There will always
be some people who think differently, so in this sense, solidarity is
impossible. However, if the end point actually and truly embraces
people's inherent differentness from each other, then, I think
some progress may be made toward global solidarity.
I just realized: you mean agreement among individuals with a
common interest, right? Or were you referring to the Polish
independent labor movement of the 1980's which contributed to
the fall of Communism.

IS GLOBAL SOLIDARITY POSSIBLE?

Is Global Solidarity Possible? Well I suppose the answer is yes. First I will deal
with the practical political question of whether the transformational solidarity I
outline is possible, given social differences between women which create unjust
domination and oppression relations (based not just on gender but on1
race/ethnicity, religion, class, sexuality and nationality).
This implies that the group has a common ethical and political project that unifies
them, fighting unjust oppression, while group interest solidarity could be found
among a band of thieves or colluding corporate executives engaging in fraud that
have no such common social justice project. Political solidarity is more
particularistic than is the humanist concept of universal human solidarity, for it
also presupposes a group that one defines oneself against, who are maintaining
unjust privileges or power over the group that one is a part of or allied to. While
those so engaging in political solidarity may also have solidarity due to
a common social position, for example they could be women feminists
demanding an end to gendered violence against women or labor union activists
demanding fair wages, they could also be allies who do not have the social
identities targeted in the unjust practices, such as male feminists and those who
are not workers.
I have argued that there is a way to understand a transformational
solidarity politics not simply based on a static understanding of ones given
gender identity as a woman. This solidarity politics goes beyond identity politics
to embrace a broader set of social justice values based on a radical solidarity
principle of justice, the Ability-Needs principle outlined and critiqued as utopian

by Marx in the Critique of the Gotha Program in 1875. I argue against

Marxs pessimism that new values do not have to wait until the world is totally
transformed.

Buod
magkalaban sina Enteng at Agimat.

Isang amang nakakaunawa at
