DAT/EM CAPTURE for use with MicroStation and SUMMIT EVOLUTION LITE EDITION

Chapter 1. Introduction to DAT/EM CAPTURE

Chapter 1. Introduction to DAT/EM CAPTURE
DAT/EM Systems International specializes in interfacing popular Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and Geographic
Information System (GIS) packages to mapping and surveying instruments.

About DAT/EM CAPTURE

DAT/EM CAPTURE is a stereoplotter interface to the users choice of Autodesk AutoCAD, Bentley MicroStation,
or ESRI ArcGIS packages, which are widely used commercial CAD/GIS packages. It provides direct
communication between the stereoplotters 3D positioning and switches to the CAD or GIS software.
DAT/EM CAPTURE may be used with any analog stereoplotter with three axis encoders, or with one of a wide variety
of analytical and digital stereoplotters.
All data collected with DAT/EM CAPTURE is fully three dimensional.
The DAT/EM mapping system offers these advantages in today's highly competitive digital world:

Low cost for a complete stand-alone stereoplotter workstation

Greatly reduced learning curve for system operators

Regularly scheduled software updates

Real-time on-line graphics for data capture and editing

About SUPER/IMPOSITION
SUPER/IMPOSITION will be mentioned throughout this manual. SUPER/IMPOSITION is sold as a video accessory for
DAT/EM CAPTURE, or as a part of DAT/EMs SUMMIT EVOLUTION digital stereoplotter. SUPER/IMPOSITION sends
an image of digitized objects into the eye along with the usual photographic view given by the stereoplotter. On
analog and analytical stereoplotters, a special video monitor and optical system are added to the stereoplotter. On
digital stereoplotters, the additional graphics are added to the image view display.

Digitized objects and optional coordinate text appear superimposed onto the images. This makes it easy
to see digitizing progress and object accuracy.

SUPER/IMPOSITION is excellent for map revision. When the older file is superimposed over an area of
new construction, any new features are immediately obvious.

The stereoplotter can check graphical objects without turning away from the image view.

Install DAT/EM CAPTURE and Configure MicroStation

Turn off AccuDraw Auto Load

MicroStation is installed with the Auto Load option of AccuDraw on. For most 3D digital mapping purposes,
MicroStations AccuDraw feature is not necessary. AccuDraw is a tool that is more suited to 3D drafting with a 2D
digitizer. When using the DAT/EM CAPTURE 3D digitizer, AccuDraw can interfere with the 3D capabilities that are
already offered.
DAT/EM recommends to turn off AccuDraws Auto Load, and then toggle AccuDraw using its toolbar icon if it is
ever needed.
Step 1)

In MicroStation, select the AccuDraw option of the Settings pull-down menu.

Step 2)

Turn off the Auto Load option.

Turn On AccuSnap and Show Tentative Hint

Unlike AccuDraw, AccuSnap and its toolbar can be quite useful with SUMMIT EVOLUTION and DAT/EM CAPTURE.
When combined with DAT/EMs tentative on and tentative off commands, AccuSnap can be used to create a full
set of 2D and 3D tentative point snap modes. DAT/EMs tentative move on and tentative move off commands can
also be used to move the stereoplotter to the 2D or 3D tentative point snap location. Read about these tentative
commands on page 5-25 and page 5-26.
The AccuSnap settings are usually off after installing MicroStation. Turn them on now.
Step 1)

Select AccuSnap from the Snaps option of the Settings pull-down menu in MicroStation.

Step 2)

Turn on Enable AccuSnap and Show Tentative Hint (this may already be on).

Turn on Enable AccuSnap.

Turn on Show Tentative Hint.

Step 3)

Select Tool Boxes from the Tools pull-down menu. Turn on the Snap Mode toolbar.

Turn on Snap Mode.

The Snap Mode toolbar appears on the

screen. It may be used to regulate
tentative point snaps. DAT/EMs tentative
on/off commands regulate whether the
snaps are 2D (XY only) or 3D (XYZ).
The on/off status is shown on the MicroStation toolbar icon using shading. Unfortunately, an icon
added by a user or a 3rd-party developer cannot show its on/off status. DAT/EM has submitted a
request to Bentley to add this capability. If this were possible, it would be very helpful to add 3D
Snap and 2D Snap icons to the end of the Snap Mode toolbar. These icons would activate the
tentative on and tentative off commands. Their on/off status would show whether the shaded
snap mode is set to 2D or 3D.
Because this toolbar icon on/off status shading is not possible, DAT/EM offers another way to
see if a tentative point snap is 2D or 3D. An additional hint is given at the cursor when a tentative
point is active. The hint also appears at the cursor in SUPER/IMPOSITION.

Chapter 3. Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE

Chapter 3. Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE
This chapter gives information about the software and hints for day-to-day use of DAT/EM CAPTURE.

How DAT/EM CAPTURE Affects the MicroStation Environment

There are several differences between using MicroStation with a standard 2D digitizer and using MicroStation with
DAT/EM CAPTUREs 3D digitizer. The most noticeable additions are as follows:

With DAT/EM CAPTURE, there are two digitizers: the 2D mouse and the 3D stereoplotter. Read more
about digitizer-related subjects in:
Auxiliary Input Mode on page 3-1
DAT/EM Coordinate Display Dialog Box on page 3-2

The DAT/EM dialog box shows ground coordinates:

DAT/EM Coordinate Display Dialog Box on page 3-2

In addition to the DAT/EM CAPTURE commands described in Chapter 5, all of the MicroStation
commands are available for mapping purposes. A good working knowledge of MicroStation is valuable
for efficient mapping. However, the beginning MicroStation user will also be able use DAT/EM
CAPTURE. Read more about helpful MicroStation commands in:
Helpful MicroStation Commands on page 3-4
Using Level and Attributes to Separate Data on page 3-4

Auxiliary Input Mode

MicroStation treats the stereoplotter as the auxiliary input device. It detects which device is moving and automatically
switches between the auxiliary input device (stereoplotter) and the system device (usually a mouse).
With SUMMIT EVOLUTION LITE EDITION, the system mouse toggles between acting as the system device and acting as
the MicroStation auxiliary input device. A single right click in the main view activates the mouse control of the
SUMMIT EVOLUTION cursor, which MicroStation detects as an auxiliary input device. A double right click in the main
view toggles the mouse back to being the system device.

Starting a New Design File

When everything appears to be set up and ready for digitizing, take a moment to verify the system is working
properly.
Step 1)

Always use a 3D design file with DAT/EM CAPTURE. If the file is an existing 2D design file,
convert it to 3D. Select 3D from the Export option on the File pull-down menu in MicroStation.

Step 2)

Move the stereoplotter position. If the cursor is not visible on the screen, use the datem fit
command to set the coordinates so that the cursor appears.

Step 3)

Visit a few control points and check the coordinates against the ground control listing. The
coordinates of the stereoplotter can be seen in the DAT/EM coordinate box.

The system is now ready for digitizing elements into MicroStation.

Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE

DAT/EM Coordinate Display Dialog Box

The DAT/EM box appears when capture<version>.ma is loaded. It may be re-displayed any time with the datem
coords command. The DAT/EM box shows ground coordinates.

Re-activate with the datem

coords command.

When the snapz on command is used, the elevation is rounded to the nearest contour interval. The rounded elevation
is sent to MicroStation; any objects digitized with snapz on are given the rounded elevation, which is displayed under
the stereoplotters true elevation in the DAT/EM box. For information about the contour interval, see Datem
Settings on page 5-9. For information about snapz, see Snapz Family of Commands on page 5-23.
When snapz on is active, the
rounded elevation that is sent to
MicroStation is displayed under the
stereoplotters true elevation.

Datem Pull-down Menu

The DatemLite pull-down menu appears when Datem_menu<version>.ma is loaded. The definition for the menu is
contained in ustnDatem<version>.mnu. For instructions on loading this application automatically, see Configure
the Application Loading Variable on page 4-5.
The DatemLite pull-down menu contains many of the commonly-used DAT/EM CAPTURE commands.

To add, remove, or change commands on the menu, see the instructions in Appendix A.

Placing Cells
Map symbols are drawn in using MicroStation cells. These cells may be placed using MicroStation by setting
ac=<cell name> and digitizing.
In order for MicroStation to find a cell, the appropriate cell library must be attached. This is accomplished with the
MicroStation attach library command or with other MicroStation cell utilities. DAT/EM supplies a starting cell
library called dat_em<version>.cel that can be customized or replaced if necessary. See Customizing the Cell
Library on page 4-2.
If the cells should take on the exact stereoplotter elevation, be sure that snapz is OFF before digitizing.

3-2 DAT/EM CAPTURE for use with MicroStation and SUMMIT EVOLUTION LITE EDITION

Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE

It is helpful if the user is familiar with the different kinds of MicroStation cells, consisting of graphic cells, point cells,
and shared cells. Also be familiar with the difference between line pattern cells and regular symbol cells. Please read
the MicroStation documentation regarding cells.

Placing Line Strings

Curvilinear features and man-made objects are drawn in MicroStation using line strings. Line strings may be placed
using either point-to-point or vertex streaming methods. They may be placed using MicroStation commands such as
place lstring stream1 and place smartline.
When placing line strings using a vertex streaming method, it is important to choose whether or not to round the
elevation to the nearest contour interval. For example, an elevation contour should have a fixed elevation rounded to
the nearest contour interval, but water flowing down the side of a mountain should have varying elevations. Use
Datem Settings to set the contour interval. Use snapz to control elevation rounding:
Placing line strings with
rounded elevations

Placing line strings with

stereoplotter elevations
Z=107.04

Z=80.0
Z=85.0
Z=90.0
Z=95.0

Z=81.23

Z=76.82
Z=55.31

Use for elevation contours.

Snapz must be on to round the elevation to the
nearest contour interval (page 5-23).
The contour interval is set with Datem Settings.
For example, with a contour interval of 5.0 and
snapz on, contours would be placed at
elevations such as 450.00, 455.00, and 460.00,
instead of 449.87, 455.47, and 461.04.

Use for varying-elevation curvilinear features

such as trails, streams, and vegetation
boundaries.
Snapz must be off to allow for varying
stereoplotter elevations (page 5-23).
With snapz off, each vertex takes on the current
stereoplotter elevation setting.

1. Do not use place lstring by itself; always use place lstring stream or place lstring space for fully 3D elements.

Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE

Helpful MicroStation Commands

A thorough knowledge of MicroStation is helpful to any user. However, someone who is new to MicroStation can use
DAT/EM CAPTURE, and build a better knowledge of MicroStation over time. A beginner may wish to start with
reading about a few commands in the MicroStation help, which can be started from MicroStations Help pull-down
menu or
icon. DAT/EM suggests learning about the following key MicroStation commands and elements before
starting to use DAT/EM CAPTURE:

Learn how to get information about an element

Learn about the commands compress design, delete element, filedesign, undo and redo.

Read about the difference between place lstring, place lstring space, and place lstring stream.

Learn about the view control commands such as update, zoom out, zoom in, window area, and fit.

Become familiar with all of the place fence commands and the behavior of the fence locks.

Become familiar with the Level Manager and how to use level, color, weight, and line code.

Read about the different kinds of cells.

Read about MicroStations tentative point snapping, then read about DAT/EMs TENTATIVE
commands that control the Z component of the tentative point snap.

Of course, there are many more commands and settings in MicroStation that are useful to DAT/EM CAPTURE users.
New users may wish to read through the MicroStation Tool Index found in MicroStations Help file.

Using Level and Attributes to Separate Data

The concept of MicroStation levels and attributes, or symbology, is similar to that of transparent overlays used in
drafting applications. MicroStation has the ability to separate data into an unlimited number of different levels. In
addition to the level, each element obtains attributes, or symbology, made up of color, weight, and line code. Because
of the level and attributes, each type of map feature can be uniquely defined.
As an example of a level assignment, assume the operator wants to define a level to represent index contours, and
wants to be able to distinguish them from other types of contours. Assign a level (lv), color (co), weight (wt), and line
code (lc) to the index contours so they can be easily separated from other types of features. For example:
Index contours: lv=Index Contour, co=3, wt=2, lc=2
Intermediate contours: lv=Intermediate Contour, co=5, wt=0, lc=0
Index depression contours: lv=Index Depression, co=3, wt=2, lc=2
Intermediate depression contours: lv=Intermediate Depression, co=5, wt=0, lc=0
Levels or groups of levels can be turned on or off to remove unnecessary information from the display. The elements
contained on the levels exist, but they are removed from the display list of the view specified. The MicroStation Level
Manager may be used to control level display.

Day-to-Day Use of DAT/EM CAPTURE

Editing the Design File

Editing the design file after all features have been digitized is a very important step. The editor's task is to verify the
data, join models together, break the project into map sheets, and add any additional textual or legend information.
The stereoplotter station can be used for editing if necessary; however, since compilation time and editing time often
vary, and users sometimes want a more powerful computer for editing, it is more efficient to have a separate
MicroStation editing station. A commonly available tablet digitizer with a 16-button cursor is also a great editing
help.

Plotting the Design File

A MicroStation design digitized using DAT/EM CAPTURE can be plotted like any other MicroStation design file. The
MicroStation package provides plotter drivers for a wide variety of plotter brands. Please refer to the MicroStation
documentation for information about using the plotting functions.

Chapter 4. Customizing the System

Chapter 4. Customizing the System

There are many ways to customize components of DAT/EM CAPTURE. This chapter gives an idea of the customizing
possibilities, as well as guidelines to follow. The following items are the most commonly customized:

Seed file, see Customizing the Seed File on page 4-1.

Cell library, see Customizing the Cell Library on page 4-2.

DatemLite menu, see Customizing the DatemLite Pull-Down Menu on page 4-2 and Appendix A.

Mouse button definitions, see Customizing the Mouse Button Definitions on page 4-2 and Button
Manager on page 5-2.

Customizing the Seed File

A custom seed file is often necessary to set up all the level, attributes, and settings necessary for a project. There are
two general categories of custom seed files:

Seed files that are modified versions of the DAT/EM-supplied seed file

Seed files that come from a non-DAT/EM source

It is strongly recommended to use the original dat_em<version>.dgn seed file for testing new installations. Once
everything is working properly, the seed file may be customized or a different 3D seed file may be used.
Do not use 2D seed files with DAT/EM CAPTURE. If an older 2D file must be used, first convert it to 3D using
MicroStations Export option from the File pull-down menu. For more information, see 2D, save as 3D in
MicroStations help file.
The dat_em<version>.dgn seed file is an ordinary 3D design file that has had a few changes to make digital mapping
easier. This saves the time required to make these changes every time a new design file is started.
dat_em<version>.dgn has the following settings:
No graphic elements are placed

View 1 is zoomed out to the maximum extents

View 1 is on, all other views are off

The active z is 0

View 1 is a top view with no rotation

Boresight lock is on

Perform the following steps when customizing the DAT/EM-supplied seed file:
Step 1)

Copy dat_em<version>.dgn to another file name such as custom.dgn.

Step 2)

Open custom.dgn in the MicroStation design editor.

Step 3)

Make the desired changes according to the project specifications. Common things to set are the
view displays, text size, and active scale.

Step 4)

Enter the FILEDESIGN command or choose Save Settings from the MicroStation menus.

Step 5)

Set the new seed file name in the MicroStation Workspace (see Configure the Seed File and Cell
Library Variables on page 4-2).

4-1

Customizing the System

Customizing the Cell Library

DAT/EM CAPTURE comes with a cell library called dat_em<version>.cel. This cell library may be used for mapping
projects if desired; however, any cell library may be used.
If a complete cell library is supplied by a client, then simply attach it to the design file or seed file and begin using it.
For information on editing or creating cells and attaching different cell libraries, see the MicroStation Help. Hints:
1.

Before modifying dat_em<version>.cel, make a copy under a different name. This prevents future
DAT/EM CAPTURE updates from writing over the custom file.

2.

Read the MicroStation Help about the different types of cells. Know the properties of graphic cells, point
cells, and shared cells.

Customizing the DatemLite Pull-Down Menu

When loaded, the Datem_menu<version>.ma application uses the ustnDatem<version>.mnu definition file to
define the DatemLite pull-down menu at the top of the MicroStation window.
The DatemLite pull-down menu
may be edited. If desired, more
pull-down menus may be added.

This menu may be customized, and additional pull-down menus may be added if desired. For complete instructions
on editing the menu definition, see Appendix A.

Customizing the Mouse Button Definitions

With DAT/EM CAPTURE, the buttons on the mouse may be redefined. To set button functions, use the Button
Manager command. See Button Manager on page 5-2.

Crelative Family of Commands

Crelative Family of Commands

Purpose:

These key-ins set the status of graphic cell placement to either relative or absolute. (The relative setting is
important when using cell placement commands to place graphic cells.)

According to the Bentleys MicroStation on-line help:

If Relative is on, a graphic cell is placed on a level or levels relative to the Active Level. For example, consider a
graphic cell that was created with elements on levels 5, 7, and 8. If Relative is on and the Active Level is 1, the cell is
placed on levels 1, 3, and 4. If the Active Level is 45, the cell is placed on levels 45, 47, and 48.

If Relative is off, a graphic cell is placed on the same level(s) as it was created (absolute placement).

MicroStation offers a setting for Relative in the Place Active Cell dialog box:

The crelative commands are key-ins that

have the same effect as checking on or off
the Relative option in MicroStations
Place Active Cell dialog box.

However, MicroStation does not offer key-ins corresponding to this Relative setting. Because it is important to know
the status of the relative setting when using cell placement commands, DAT/EM CAPTURE offers the crelative
commands:

Datem Coords
Purpose:

Activate the DAT/EM CAPTURE coordinate display.

Datem coords activates the DAT/EM CAPTURE coordinate display. This display shows ground coordinates. It also
shows the rounded elevation when snapz on is active.
To display the dialog box, start the command:
datem coords

Activate with the datem coords command.

DAT/EM CAPTURE for use with MicroStation and SUMMIT EVOLUTION LITE EDITION

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Purpose:

To set the absolute display depth to dp=-9999,9999 in the view that had the most recently recorded point.

This command is especially helpful when a new design file is started. The new design file may not be set to show the
models Z depth, and since there are no elements in the file yet, a view fit doesn't produce the models Z depth either.
Datem depth sets the Z depth so that any elements that are about to be digitized can be displayed in Z.
The size of the XY and Z displays are controlled by different settings. Datem depth sets a large view depth, while
datem extents and datem fit control XY extents of the view.
To use datem depth, perform the following steps:
Step 1)

Datem depth works on the view that had the most recently recorded point. Choose a view that is to
be used with datem depth. If the most recently recorded point was not in that view, then activate
MicroStations Update View icon and click the mouse in that view. (Update View is suggested as
a method to place the most recently recorded point in the desired view without digitizing an
element.)

Step 2)

Start the command:

datem depth

Step 3)

If desired, immediately click the mouse in any other views to run datem depth in those views also.

Datem depth produces the same results as if dp=-9999,9999 had been entered in the view that had the most recently
recorded point.

Datem Depth

Datem Depth

Datem Extents

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Datem Extents
To zoom View 1 approximately around the model extents, then rotate the View 1 to the model's rotation angle.

Purpose:

This command is especially helpful when a new design file is started. The new design file may not show the model
coordinates in its view, and because there are no elements in the file yet, a view fit doesn't produce the model view
either. By using datem extents, the model view and model rotation are obtained before placing any elements in the
design file.
To use datem extents, perform the following steps:
Step 1)

Make sure orientation is done on the stereoplotter. The datem extents command must be able to
find the orientation file.

Step 2)

Start the command:

datem extents

Datem extents produces the following results:

View 1 is set roughly around the model extents

The Z depth is not changed

View 1 is rotated to be the same as the stereoplotter models rotation.

Datpan is turned off. See Datpan Family of Commands on page 5-11.

The view rotation is obtained from the model's orientation results. The rotation is the same angle used by the datem
rotate command.
The view rotation is only for convenience, and can be changed back at any time using the MicroStation view rotation
utilities.

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Datem Fit

Datem Fit
Similar to MicroStations fit, but performs the fit in XY only; does not change the Z depth or the rotation.

Purpose:

This command combines aspects of both MicroStations fit and datem extents:

Fits View 1 around the (X,Y) coordinate range of the files elements.

Does not change the view depth (Z).

Does not change the view rotation.

To use, simply enter the command:

datem fit
View 1 immediately fits to the maximum and minimum (X,Y) coordinates of any objects in the file.

Datem Rotate

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Datem Rotate
Purpose:

To rotate the current view to the same rotation as the photographic model.

Datem rotate rotates the current view to the same rotation as the photographic model. After datem rotate is used,
the current view is rotated so cursor movement is in the same direction as stereoplotter movement. That is, if the
stereoplotter moves up on the XY plane, the cursor moves up on the screen, and if the stereoplotter moves right on the
XY plane, the cursor moves right on the screen. This command is useful when north is not straight up on the
photographic model.
To use, simply enter the command,
datem rotate
Datem rotate does not change MicroStation's active angle; it only affects the view rotation.
A similar command is datem extents, which not only rotates the view, but also zooms to the model extents.

checked on, supported stereoplotters
move automatically to tentative points.
Key-ins for this option are tentative
move off and tentative move on.

If Tentative to XY only is checked on, tentative points

snap to an objects XY location, but retain the digitizer Z.
The digitizer Z is MicroStations active elevation if using the
mouse, or the stereoplotter Z if using the stereoplotter.
If Tentative to XY only is not on, tentative points snap to
the full XYZ of the selected object. (This is MicroStations
default tentative point snap functionality.)
Key-ins for this option are tentative off and tentative on.

To activate an alert if the stereoplotter Z is

far from the tentative point Z, set the
following:
Set If tolerance exceeded to the type of
alert to activate if the Tentative Z
tolerance is exceeded.

Choose a Show tentative label and color setting. If

checked on, the following happens:
If Tentative to XY only is on when a tentative point is
selected, the temporary label, 2D appears to the upper
right of the cursor.

Set the Tentative Z tolerance to the

maximum acceptable difference
between the stereoplotters Z and the
tentative points Z. If the tolerance is
exceeded, the alert process is activated.

If Tentative to XY only is off when a tentative point is

selected, the temporary label, 3D: (z of element)
appears to the upper right of the cursor.

Step 5)

(Optional) Save the current settings to a file if desired:

Select Save to File to save the current settings to a .set file.

This file may then be used later on this stereoplotter station or
copied to another DAT/EM CAPTURE station.

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Purpose:

To automatically pan the view as the auxiliary input (stereoplotter) digitizer's cursor moves out of the current
view. The stereoplotter's cursor is always displayed on the video screen.

It is often convenient to perform a transparent view pan. A transparent pan will not cancel or interfere with any other
active command. Whenever the stereoplotters cursor approaches the edge of the video screen, datpan sets a new
view window with the cursor in the center.
There are several commands associated with datpan:
Datpan Family of Commands
Key-in

Description

datpan on

Turn on view panning in view 1. The cursor will never move out of
the view; when it approaches the edge of the view, a new view will
appear with the cursor in the center.

datpan off

Turn off view panning. The cursor will be able to move out of the
view.

datpan settings

If desired, check on Autoload on startup to turn on datpan every

time the DAT/EM CAPTURE application loads.
Set the place on the view where the cursor will activate the pan.
This value may be set between 0% and 40%.

25% would cause a pan when the cursor moved half the distance
from the center to the edge of the view.
10% would cause a pan when the cursor moved four-fifths the
distance from the center to the edge of the view.
datpan toggle

Toggle the datpan setting from on to off or from off to on. This
command is useful to program on only one keypad key.

DAT/EM CAPTURE Command Reference

Mv Tentative
Purpose:

To move the analytical or digital stereoplotter to the (X,Y) or the (X,Y,Z) of a tentative point.

The mv tentative command moves the stereoplotter to the (X,Y) or the (X,Y,Z) of the currently active tentative point.
To make settings and use the tentative point move, perform the following steps:
Step 1)

Either use the tentative move family of commands and tentative family of commands, or activate
the datem settings dialog box and make selections:
datem settings
If Move stereoplotter to tentative is checked on,
supported stereoplotters move automatically to a
tentative point as soon as the tentative point is selected.
Note! If Move stereoplotter to tentative is checked
on, the mv tentative key-in command is not
necessary.
Key-ins for this option are tentative move off and
tentative move on.

Tentative to XY only checked on allows

tentative points to snap to the (X,Y) of the
selected element while retaining the current
MicroStation elevation (picked with mouse) or
stereoplotter Z (picked with stereoplotter).
If Tentative to XY only is off, tentative points
snap to the (X,Y,Z) of the selected element.
Key-ins for this option are tentative off and
tentative on.

Step 2)

Select a tentative point in the MicroStation design file. There are two possible results or actions,
depending on the setting for Move stereoplotter to tentative:
a.)

If Move stereoplotter to tentative is on in the DAT/EM Capture Settings box, then the
stereoplotter moves automatically to the new tentative point. The mv tentative command is not
necessary.

b.)
