Section 1

Guarantee of Rights

Protects us from unreasonable government interference.


Government must prove limiting your freedoms is just in a fair society.

Examples are limiting hate speech and behaviour deemed obscene.

Fundamental Freedoms
Religion, Expression, Thought, Belief, Peaceful Assembly
and Association
With responsibility in mind we have the right to practice
whatever religion we like, share our thoughts and beliefs
and gather in a peaceful manner.

Right to Vote and Be elected-3

Elected body must meet yearly-5
Democratic rights ensure that all citizens have a right to
vote and elect their government. That government must be
reelected to remain in office and must serve the people that
elect them. Only in times of war can this change.

Section 6

Mobility Rights
We can move freely throughout the country. If we leave
we are guaranteed return as a citizen.
Citizens and permanent residents can freely move from one
province or another in pursuit of work or other things.
Citizens and permanent residents can leave and return to
Canada.

Section 7-14

Legal Rights
We are protected from unfair treatment
under the law.

We are protected from unjust search and seizure.


We are protected from unjust detainment.
We have a right to know any charges against us and to have a
lawyer.
We have a right to be kept free of torture or inhumane
treatment.
We have a right to not incriminate ourselves.
We have a right to an interpreter if needed.

Section 15

Equality Rights
We are all equal under the law regardless of race,
gender,religion, sexuality, ethnic origin, disability or age.
Laws can be made that will benefit disadvantaged groups.
Individuals that feel their equality rights have been
violated must clearly show that their difference is the
factor influencing treatment.

Section 16-22

Language Rights
Canada has two official languages. All communications
when possible should be made available in each.
This provision guarantees that government
communications are available in both english and french.
Signs should be posted in both english and french.
The predominate language of the area can be used but
the option of the less common language needs to be
available if requested.

Section 23

Minority Language Education Rights


Minority language users have the right to have their
children educated in the language they were raised or
educated in.
While we have a right to access only demand can establish
funding.
If a student lives within an area that does not provide that
language due to no demand they can go elsewhere.

Section 24

Enforcement
All citizens when feeling their rights under the
charter have been violated have the opportunity
to present their position to the court.
Courts will consider all evidence.
If evidence is deemed collected that violates
charter rights it will be deemed inadmissible.
