SCOPE
The Scope of this Method Statement covers Epoxy Resin Floor Coating
System at Burj Vista (Plot 14- 17 Downtown) Project in accordance to
Project Specifications & Manufacturers recommendation.

2.0

PURPOSE
The purpose of this Method Statement is to describe the material,
equipment used, work procedures and associated Quality Assurance and
Quality Control Procedures for the Epoxy Resin Floor Coating System at
Burj Vista (Plot 14- 17 Downtown) Project.

Paint programme of works will be prepared by the Contractors


Manager.

Isam Kabbani Site Engineer will organize the manpower, materials,


plant and equipment needed for the paint works as per Contractors
Programme.

6.3

Isam Kabbani Site Engineer will hold daily tool box talks for the
painting workers.

6.4

Isam Kabbani Site Engineer will ensure that all safety measures are
implemented as per the Contractors Safety Procedures.

6.5

Inspection Requests and Check Lists will be initiated by the Isam


Kabbani Site Engineer and will be Handed Over to Contractors QC
Engineer.

6.6

Floor coating will be directly supervised by Isam Kabbani Foreman.

6.7

Contractors QC Engineer will conduct the Inspections and Request


Consultants for Inspection and Approval.

6.8

MEP Coordinator will arrange the MEP Clearance Inspections prior


to painting where required.

SEQUENCES AND PROCEDURES


7.1

Substrate Conditions:
Reinforced concrete slab sound & dry with properly finished
surface joints & edges. Concrete compressive strength should
be greater than 25N/mm2 with moisture content less than
5% (As per manufacturers recommendation)

7.2

Surface Preparation:
7.2.1 Prior to starting preparation, close the area to be prepared to
all traffic and other trades.
7.2.2 Run vacuum, shotblasting or light grinding machine onto the
concrete surface to achieve medium sand paper roughness
and open concrete surface pores.

7.2.3 If any part of the floor is contaminated by oil, grease or fuel,


the contamination should be removed before other forms of
preparation are undertaken.
7.2.4 At free edges such as aisleways and doorways the floor
topping should be terminated properly (as per
manufacturers recommendation).
7.2.5 Minor surface defects exposed during surface preparation
such as shrinkage cracks, blow holes, minor honey combing,
minor damage to joint arises shall be filled with epoxy mortar
(Epoxy Putty as per manufacturers recommendation).
7.2.6 When floor preparation is complete, vacuum the area to
remove all dust and debris.
7.2.7 Place 50mm wide masking tape along free edges.
7.3

Application for Nitoflor FC 150:


7.3.1 The substrate should be thoroughly cleaned to remove any
remaining traces of dust or other loose material.
7.3.2 Mixing of Nitoflor FC 150 to be done as per manufacturers
recommendation and data sheet.
7.3.3 Using short hair roller apply first coat of Nitoflor FC 150 to
the prepared surface at the rate of 4m/liter
7.3.4 Whilst Nitoflor FC 150 is still wet, Broadcast antislip
aggregates and allow curing for (12hours @ 20C or 5hours
@ 35C)
7.3.5 Remove access antislip grains after drying. Prior to removal
of excess antislip grain, always ensure that the grains are
firmly embedded in the first coat
7.3.6 Using a short hair roller, apply top coat of Nitoflor FC 150
at the rate of 4m/liter and care should be taken to ensure
that continuous film is achieved and rough surface is
completely sealed.

7.3.7 The top coat should be cured for minimum 24 hours from
application and should be protected using polyethylene sheet,
prior to allowing foot traffic. Vehicle traffic should be
permitted only after 5 days from application.

QUALITY CONTROL
8.1

The whole application procedure shall be under continuous


surveillance and auditing from Isam Kabbani & Partners the
Supervision Consultant quality control team to ensure strict
adherence to the method statement.

8.2

The applied coatings should be thoroughly inspected and the W.I.R


for each area should be dully signed by relevant parties.

Safety Induction training will be provided to all workers.


Proper access and separate storage for Nitoflor FC 150 coating
paint materials will be provided.
Smoking and naked fire will be prohibited and required signage will
be displayed at store.
All workers will be briefed about MSDS and work related safety
measures.
Adequate fire fighting measures will be provided at store and near
to the place of work for accidental fire.
Apart from general PPE, suitable chemical mask (cartridge type,
preferable 3M 6000 series) will be provided to the workers.
The work place to be demarcated and barricaded to prevent
unauthorized personnel.
Suitable dust mask (N95 standard) will be provided for the workers
engaged for dust generating type surface preparation work.
Localized forced ventilation will be provided for effective dilution of
contaminant.

10.0 ENVIRONMENTAL CONTROL MEASURES


10.1 In case of spillage of Nitoflor FC 150 the same will be wiped off by
suitable absorber or spill kit.
10.2 Spillage will never be washed by water and disposed off to water
body. (Spillage will be cleaned and disposed as per manufacturers
recommendations)
10.3 In case of fire use of water jet will be avoided so far possible.
10.4 Empty containers, used spilled kit, used brushes and other used
staff will be disposed off according to the manufacturers instruction
or as specified in MSDS.
