VIRTUAL MACHINE SETUP (VHD)


VIRTUALIZATION TECHNOLOGIES
The virtual machine utilizes Microsoft VHD format for the virtual disk. Any virtual machine host software
that can support the associated virtual disk format can be used to run the image. This document contains
instructions for configuring the virtual disk for Microsoft Hyper-V and Oracle VM VirtualBox hosting
technologies.

Microsoft Hyper-V
o Use existing configuration
o Create new configuration
Oracle VM VirtualBox
o Use existing configuration
o Create new configuration

MICROSOFT HYPER-V (EXISTING)

Start Microsoft Hyper-V


Import Virtual machine
Locate Folder: {package directory}
Select Virtual Machine: K2 Core {build}
Import Type: Register the virtual machine in-place
Locate Virtual Hard Disks: {package directory}
Network Connection (optional): Select a Virtual Switch or Not Connected
Start
Action > Insert Integration Services Startup Disk

MICROSOFT HYPER-V (NEW)

Start Microsoft Hyper-V


Create a New Virtual Machine
Name: K2 Core {build}
Location: {package directory}
Generation (if available): Generation 1
Startup memory: 8192 MB
Network Connection (optional): {select a Virtual Switch}
Use an existing virtual hard disk: {package directory}\K2 Core.vhd
Settings > Processor > Number of virtual processors: 2
Start
Action > Insert Integration Services Startup Disk

VIRTUAL MACHINE SETUP (VHD)

ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX (EXISTING)

Start Oracle VM VirtualBox


Machine > Add
Select a Virtual Machine File: {package directory}\K2 Core.vbox
Start
Devices > Install Guest Additions

ORACLE VM VIRTUALBOX (NEW)

Start Oracle VM VirtualBox


Machine > New
Name: K2 Core {build}
Type: Microsoft Windows
Version: Windows 2008 (64 bit)
Memory: 8192 MB
Hard drive: do not add a virtual hard drive
Create, Continue when prompted with operating system warning
System > Motherboard
o Boot Order: Uncheck Floppy
System > Processor
o Processor(s): 2
Settings > Storage
o SATA Controller > Right-click > Remove

Add Controller > SAS Controller

o Add Hard Drive > Choose existing disk: {package directory}\K2 Core.vhd
Start
Devices > Install Guest Additions
