EPISODE ONE

School Environment Interaction

Instructions: Describe briefly your observations on the following: (If possible
attached some pictures to support your observation)
Student-to-Student Interaction Patterns
The students interact to other students casually. They love to be around their
classmates and are most comfortable interacting and talking with their
friends and seatmates.
Student-to-Teacher Interaction Patterns
The students are noticeably oriented toward respect for teachers as observed
in the way they interact with the Teachers.
Teacher-to-Student Interaction Patterns
Teacher interact to students with enthusiasm and patience, especially in the
class. They too exercise respect to students whenever they give answers
which are incorrect or are of different religious affiliation. And it is evident
that teachers gives leader-like or parent-like impressions whenever they talk
or intermingle with them.
Student-to-Non-Teaching Personnel Interaction Patterns
Students to non-teaching personnel interact with ease. Some exercise
courteousness some do not, unlike how they interact with their Teachers.

Teacher-to-Teacher interaction Patterns

Teachers display respectfulness in how they interact with co-teachers. They
are most at ease talking to their close co-teachers. But generally, they show
civility and respect to other teachers in the school.

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.

Why is a classroom a miniature of a greater society?
Society as defined, is a community, nation, or broad grouping of people
having a common traditions, institutions, and collective activities and
interests (Merriam-Webster Dictionary). It follows that a classroom is indeed a
miniature of a greater society because a classroom is composed of students,
a teacher, with involvement of stakeholders (parents) who collectively have
shared class rules, policies, guidelines and values. In where teacher and
students meet daily because of common interest, that is to work towards
attainment of lesson goals and objectives.
What are found in the classrooms that are similar to what can be observed in
society?
As observed in society, we can as well find in the classroom the following:
Companionship (i.e., social circle, brotherhood)
Association (PTA)
Laws (class rules)
Organized community
Pattern of relationships (interaction with one another)
Standards of living or conduct (policies and guidelines)

EPISODE TWO

Inside the Classroom

Instructions: Select and narrate briefly the best topic discussion done by the
teacher while you were doing your observation. (If possible attached some pictures
to support your observation)
Narration of the classroom discussion
The best topic that Mrs. Roldan (Resource Teacher) discussed was the lesson
about the key concepts of measurements (time, temperature, and angle)
specifically the skill lesson on how to measure time and how to convert it
from one unit to another.
The teacher showcased an interesting flow of the discussion with adherence

to the guiding principles of the selection and use of teaching strategies. She
exercised that learning is an active process, and she used an integrated
approach. Shes engaging the learners in the teaching-learning process
actively. Discovery learning is daily exercised by the teacher on how she
allows the students to discover the meaning of the concepts presented for
themselves, relating it to their interests, presenting critical questions and
interesting critical thinking questions, encouraging active participation and
substantive dialogue with them, thus they find the answers themselves. From
activating their prior knowledge into accommodating the new content
presented and integrating those knowledge to real-life application by solving
real-life problems related to the lesson.

Curriculum Implementation
Instructions: Describe briefly your observations on the following: (If possible
attached some pictures to support your observation)
Classroom environment
My classroom assignment for the class observation was in Grade 7- Pasteur of
SCNHS. On the very first day of observing, looking around the room, I instantly find
it a conducive environment for learning. The adviser (Mrs. Roldan), students and
stakeholders (parents) have done a good job in the structuring of the classroom,
providing enough ventilation (4 ceiling fans), 18 substantial wall displays, curtains,

cleaning materials (broom, dustpan, foot-mops, etc.), complete chairs for students
and teachers table. The teacher was able to administer proper discipline to
students for they have been able to keep the room clean at all times by assigning
daily sweepers.

Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.
Why should teachers know about curriculum design?
It is essential that teachers know the curriculum design because it serves as
their guide that outlines curricula to help define what material they should
cover in class.
Depending on the institution, a curriculum guide might be subject- and/or
grade-specific.
They have to be aware of it constantly because every time there are changes
or developments happening around the world, the school curricula are
affected. There is a need to update them in order to address the societys
needs
What do most principles and theories of curriculum development have in common?
How is the commonality expressed or spelled out in the curriculum of the class you
have observed?
a) theories of human motivation and management (every pre-lecture lesson, the
Resource teacher gives motive questions to students and relating the lesson
to students learning experiences. The teacher manages to impose proper
discipline to students who excessively misbehave in the class)
b) Theory that stresses the importance of strict supervision, external rewards,
and penalties. (The teacher manages to impose proper discipline to students
who excessively misbehave in the class)
c) Improvement of curricular programs and quality of instruction (The Resource
Teacher is exercising the guiding principles of organizing of content and
meaningful learning, she has applied the use of teaching strategies)
d) Upgrading of academic standards (Academic standards with accordance to
the K-12 program.
e) Democratization of access to educational opportunities
f) Training middle-level technical and agricultural manpower

EPISODE FIVE

Curriculum design
Instructions: Describe briefly the curriculum type (Subject Centered, Experience/
Learner and Society/Culture Based) observed in the class. Write a brief explanation
to support your observation(s).
The curriculum type as I have observed in the class was a mixed of Subject
Centered and Experience/Learner Based curriculum. It is subject-centered
when the teacher first presents solely the key lesson/concept administering
to the class the central task of lesson mastery, with emphasis on the wellorganized lessons through lecture method where teacher has the full control.
However, along the process of transitioning to skill lesson, it becomes
experience/learner-centered. The teacher exercise discovery learning of
students and uses inquiry method, involving students in the problem-solving
activities by letting them answer the questions and problems provided by the
teacher. Group activities were conducted to answer real-life problem solving
then having the students report in front the next meeting. Upholding
cooperative and collaborative learning through these group activities.
Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.
How important is it for teachers and curriculum planners to anchor their curricular
plans to specific theories and principles of curriculum development?

The phrase curriculum planning can mean one of two related things:
1. either the process of an individual teacher to build a class curriculum, or
2. the means through which school boards coordinate the various curricula
being used by teachers in order to achieve uniform goals.
On its own, a curriculum plan is a lesson plan that functions as a map for
learning. Therefore, teachers and curriculum planners are required to exercise
careful planning to ensure first that the lessons actually touch on all required
topics, and also that they meet school or governmental standards of basic
education.
Aside from the teachers, who else should be involved in the curriculum planning?
Expound your thoughts.
The stakeholders as well should be involved in the curriculum planning for
they are the recipients of the implementation of curriculum.

EPISODE SIX

Curriculum experience
Instructions: attached pictures of the class (teacher and students) you observed.
Write short captions of every picture.
Questions to ponder: Answer the questions concisely.
How do you find teaching profession after your class observation?
After my class observation, I find teaching profession a gratifying and a noble
profession indeed.
