Introduction:
The absence of a well-established information system to serve patient and staff has led to
inconveniences. This has tantamount to the loss of patient and staff records. This is basically
because of the weakness of the existing system which includes over reliance on paper based
work. Paper files consume a lot of the office space, slow recording, processing and retrieval
of patient details.
The Patient Information Management System (PIMS) is an automated system that is used to
manage patient information and its administration. It is meant to provide the
Administration and Staff, with information in real-time to make their work more interesting
and less stressing.
Console application software, Patient Information Management System (PIMS), basically
designed for a single department of a hospital (for example Heart clinic). This hospital
provides a lot of services to patients which includes; Daily treatment of patients, Admission
of patients, Keeps records about inpatients and outpatients respectively and other services.
C++ confined within the system to enable development and implementation

Hospital

Medical Form

Description
Is defined as the entity that provides the medical services to the
patient in questioned at a given period of time which is basically
curative and preventive and is offered in clinic unit x-ray/ ultra
sound, laboratory and dental unit in the hospital.
It refers to the medical document describing the patient initials,
diagnoses and treatment of a particular patient in question that can
be used for future reference in case of no improvement in the health
condition of the patient hence changes can be carried out
accordingly.

Is the money paid by the patient in question at the receptionist desk


before any medical attention

It is a system that can manage multiple patient and can have the
track of the right assigned to them. It also makes sure that all the
Administrators function with the system as per the rights assigned to
them and they can get their work done in efficient manner.
A patient whose treatment needs at least one nights residence in a
hospital.

Outpatient

A patient who receives treatment at a hospital or clinic but is not


admitted overnight.

Clinic

A medical facility, especially one for the treatment and diagnosis of


outpatients.

Requirements Specifications:
After analyzing the data collected, we formulated a number of
requirements. These were grouped as user, systems requirements,
functional and non-functional.

1 User Requirement
Patient Record Management System should provide a way to manage
patients, staff and doctors of the hospital.

2 System Requirement
The Patient Record Management System should provide a tool that
allows a receptionist to accept patients request for treatment and
assign unique treatment number, if user data is valid.
It allows the hospital manger to register staff, assign their jobs and
salaries after the contract with hospital management.
It allows the manger to register doctors, assign their clinics and
salaries also.
It provide the tool that assign the patients to their requested doctors,
if the requested doctors are available.
It provide a bill receipt to patients, containing all expenses of their
treatment.

Functional Requirements

The following is the desired functionality of the new system.

Manage patients:
The purposed system enables the receptionist to add patients to
the waiting list, assign doctor to each patient according to
his/her decease, admit critically ill patient to emergency ward.

Manage staff:
The purposed system allows the hospital manger to register staff,
assign their jobs and salaries after the contract with hospital
management.

Manage doctors:
The purposed system allows the manger to register doctors, assign
their clinics and salaries also. It also allow the receptionist to give
them a patient list.

Bill management:
The purposed system enables the receptionist to provide a bill
receipt to patients, containing all expenses of their treatment.

Non-Functional Requirements
The user interface shall be menu driven, it shall provide dialog
boxes and help frames.

The system shall not disclose any personal information about


user apart from their name and reference number to the
operators of the system
On power loss, the battery backup must support 30 min.
normal operation
A system should have a high performance and reliability level.
The system should be written using c++.
