Class Test II

Max. Marks:15
Time: 1 Hour
NOTE: (1) Attempt any THREE questions. Each question carries equal marks.
(2) Assume any data suitably, if required.
1. (a) What is the function of check valve?
(b) What is the permissible limit of nitrate in drinking water?
(c) Pumps are connected to be in to double the head and keep the
discharge same.
(d) What are the permissible limit and cause for rejection limit of hardness in drinking
water?
(f) Define different pipe materials.
2. Draw neat sketches of following:
(a) Spigot and Socket Joint for CI pipe.
(b) Expansion joint for CI pipe.
3. Public water supply is conveyed from the source to the Centre of supply by gravitational
system or pumping system or combined system. Draw three separate longitudinal
sections indicating these systems, and show the positions of various details in each.
4. A town with a population of one lakh is to be supplied with water daily at 200 liters per
head. The variation in demand is as follows:
6 A.M. to 9 A.M. = 40% of the total
9 A.M. to 12 Noon = 10% of the total
12 Noon to 3 P.M. = 10% of the total
3 P.M. to 6 P.M. = 15% of the total
6 P.M. to 9 P.M. = 25% of the total
Determine the capacity of service reservoir assuming pumping to be at uniform rate and
the period of pumping to be from 6 A.M. to 6 P.M. Neglect fire demand. Solve by
analytical method.
