APAStyleSample

Overview
AmericanPsychologicalAssociation(APA)styleisprimarilyusedinthe
socialsciencedisciplines.ItisformattedlikeModernLanguageAssociation(MLA),
andshowsmanysimilarities,butisuniqueinseveralkeypoints.Thispaperdiscusses
theAPAindetail.Addressing plagiarism has become a major challenge in education
(Bretag, 2013), and educating students in referencing correctly with the APA 6th is
one way of trying to overcome the problem.

Discussion
APAusesparenthetical(orintext)citationswithinsentences,butratherthan
indicatingtheauthor'snameandpagenumber,APAincludesauthor'snameanddate
ofpublication.Thepagenumber,representedwithap.orapp.,isonlyaddedtothe
citationwhenusingadirectquote(notasummaryorparaphrase).Iftheauthor's
nameismentionedinthesentence,thenplacethedateofpublicationinparentheses
directlyafterthename.Ifthenameisnotmentionedincludetheauthor'snameand
dateinparenthesesattheendofthesourcematerial.And,ifyouuseadirectquote,
placethepagenumberafterthepublicationdatewithintheparentheses.

Notethedifferencebetweenthefollowingthreeexamples:

However,ithasbeenpointedoutthattheresearchwasconductedinaselective,

Finally,thebibliographicpageinAPAstylediffersfromMLA,whatAPA
callstheReferencepage.YouwillnoticeafewimmediatedifferencesfromtheMLA
WorksCitedformat.WithAPAyouincludetheinitialoftheauthor'sfirstname
ratherthanthecompletename,thepublicationdateimmediatelyfollowstheauthor's
nameinparentheses,andtitlesofarticlesarenotsurroundedwithquotationmarks.
Thelistsarestillalphabetizedbyauthor'slastname(ortitleintheabsenceofan
author)andthefirstlineisflushleftwhilesubsequentlinesinthesameentryare
