Causes of the Fall of Rome

By Ethan, Khadijah, and Rachel

Economic Troubles and

Over Reliance on Slaves
One of the reasons that Rome fell was that they
were in a lot of debt like the U.S. is right now. They
were also trusting slaves too much that they were
paying too much money which was one of the
reasons that the Roman Empire fell.
US Debt:
$19,735,109,150,456 and growing by the second.

Weakening of the
Roman Legions

The Roman Empire couldnt afford citizens to be

soldiers, so Diocletian and Constantine decided to hire
foreign mercenaries to help them. However, they didnt
know that every mercenary had either very little or no
loyalty to Rome. So the mercenaries attacked Rome
which was another cause to the fall of Rome.

Division of the
Empire
When Constantine split the
Roman Empire in half, one
of the sides turned into a
Latin Empire and the other
half turned into a Greek
Empire. This is another
cause to the fall of Rome
because they shouldve
kept both sides as one
Empire instead of splitting
the Empire in half.

Invasions by
Barbarian Tribes
Rome became invaded by different tribes
of barbarians on all sides so it was really
hard to defend. Eventually, the barbarians
captured the Western side of Rome. Then,
even later, they captured the Eastern side
of Rome. This is one of the main reasons
of why Rome fell

Constantine and the

Rise of Christianity
When Constantine became emperor of
Rome, he rose Christianity to become
popular which caused Rome to split in
half because of the rise of Christianity.
This is another one of the main reasons to
the fall of Rome.

Overexpansion and
Military Overspending
Controlling more and more land is usually
a good thing, but in Romes case it was
too much to control. Soon enough they
had to much land to control, so they had
to pay German mercenaries guard Rome
because Rome didnt have enough money
to pay the citizens to be soldiers. They
eventually became very poor.
