In African traditional society, family goes beyond people who are

related by blood or common Ancestors . family in African society today ,may

be related to group who have join common belief institution,society or
organization
By the Akan proverbs that says family is like a tree and family is a
nation(Abusua tesee adua and abusua y3 Oman) shows how great a family is
and how large and big it members are

family members are expected to help each other in times of happiness

when one is born, get married ,in sorrows,when a member passes away,get
sick or affected by misfortune

The expectation of a family members to meet all the above demands

in times of all the above listed situations cannot be done without money.this
can be found in the Akan proverb that says (kwakyen adieyef3,nanso yede
sika na aye)
Members who will be visiting on vacation or impromptu will be demand
money for fees,transport and other family issues all demanding money
there is another proverb in Akan that says family love corpse( Abusua
do3 afunu)they therefore delight in preserving the dead in the family well
and performing the neccessary rites before the dead is finally buried. funeral
in the family has become one of the expensive expenses every family in
Ghana makes,other family even go to the extend of going for loan to
undertake funeral of which any debt incurred is shared among family
members this sharing can be deduced from the Akan proverb that says when
the is a pareguin gold in the famil y,it belongs to all.any family member who
is given a debt to settle will have to do so in a given amount of time and the
only means is to engaged in corrupt practice to settle the accumulating
debt,those who are affluent in the family sometimes bribe the Abusua panin
to acquired position or status in the family,and will even be absent in most
family meetings .
since family in an African society goes beyond people who related by

who bribe others to get their votes to acquired various position in their
political party.after spending so much money on bribery,they are voted into

power and the only means of getting the money they spent on bribery is to
engaged in corrupt practices
