The flight left Moscow in fine weather, but conditions in Germany werent so good; it had
been snowing and the temperature had fallen to below zero. The plane landed at Munich
airport to take on more fuel, but the pilot had been having some problems with the
engines, and there was a delay while some checks were made. After he had completed
the refuelling, he radioed the control tower to say he was ready for take-off.
The pilot made two unsuccessful attempts to take off, but couldnt get enough power
from the engines. As he was trying to take off for the third time, the disaster happened.
The plane was increasing speed and had almost reached the end of the runway when it
seemed suddenly to lose power. Out of control, it crashed into some buildings, and then
burst into flames.

- Brazil nuts : a daily helping of Brazil nuts provides a rich source of selenium. Low levels
of this mineral reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, and thyroid problems. The
mineral is also contained in meat, especially kidneys, as well as oily fish, bread and rice.
- Fruit and vegetables : studies that have linked the low intake of vitamins C, E, and beta
carotene in Scotland with its particularly high rate of heart disease provide important
evidence that fruit and vegetables should be eaten every day. They are full of antioxidants. An intake of five to seven helpings a day is recommended.
- Green vegetables : broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, cauliflower, turnips, and kale all have
anti-cancer properties. Sprouts contain so much sinigrin, a natural anti-cancer chemical,
that according to a food scientist at the institute of Food Research in Norwich, even an
occasional meal could destroy cancer cells in the colon. According to a recent study
reported in the British Medical Journal, the most effective vegetable to counteract
cataracts and other vision impairments is spinach.
- Berries : cranberries, strawberries, blueberries, and raspberries are rich in anti-oxidants
and vitamin C. Strawberries contain more vitamin C by weight than oranges. Like
cherries, they contain ellagic acid, said to block an enzyme used by cancer cells.
