There are two water purifier brands of Eureka Forbes, Aquaguard and Aquasure. Aquaguard,
principally targets the lady of the house who is a young mother aged between 25 to 40 years.
As far as Aquasure is concerned, its a brand that is sold through retail and the target group is
slightly younger. Eureka Forbes seems to have fallen behind in one key emerging business
segment gravity-based water filters that can work without electricity. Dependence on direct
sales and ignoring mass retailing turned out to be a major handicap for the company which may
prove costly in the future. Although the company has increased its visibility in the digital space

just launched a new premium water purifier called Dr Aquaguard which will be pushed through
the company's own website, providing the option to buy online. The company has also brought
on board a brand ambassador for Aquaguard in Madhuri Dixit and her husband Sriram Nene.
Apart from all this, the company is also expected to expand the distribution into tier II, III and IV
markets in a bid to ramp up its presence in small towns and cities.
In 2005, Kent roped in Hema Malini, which helped it gain consumer attention. In the first five
years, Kent had found it difficult to convince customers against a giant like Aquaguard, which
ruled the market with its UV purifiers. While Kents purifier was priced at Rs Xxxx, UV purifiers
were available for Rs Xxxx, five-times less. The purifiers available in the market did not remove
dissolved impurities like arsenic, fluoride or pesticides, which Kent did and made it its USP.
Today, Kent leads in the RO category with maximum share while the company is not at all
interested in the fast declining UV market.
HULs brand Pureit is one of the most popular brands of water purifiers in India. Previously, the
company launched only gravity based filters priced at an affordable range. However, after three
years in 2011, the company forayed in the premium water purifier segment. The new product
was named Pureit Marvella RO (Reverse Osmosis). From a single SKU brand in 2008, Pureit
now has eight variants in its portfolio namely: Pureit Classic 23 litres, Pureit Classic 14 litres,
Pureit Intella 12 litres, Pureit Classic Auto-fill 23 litres, Pureit Marvella OGT, Pureit Marvella RO,
Pureit Advanced and Pureit Marvella UV. Hindustan Unilever has the support of its parent
Unilever in the water business as it has already been taking the indigenous brand to other
markets such as Mexico and Indonesia.
Tata Swach silver-based water purifiers were introduced in 2009 and offer a wide range of
products at affordable prices, starting from just Rs Xxxx. The advanced technology of Tata
Swach with its path-breaking silver nanotechnology has helped the company gained a

considerable position. The company previously forayed into non-electric purifiers but has now
entered into electric purifiers also with products like Tata Swach Platina Silver RO and Ultima
Silver RO+UV water purifier.
Luminous brand Livpure in its second year of launch has been adjudged the upcoming
innovative Water Purifier in Best RO+UV+UF' category & awarded the Water Digest Water
Award in association with UNESCO. This has further motivated the company to initiate the Sub
Xxxx RO water purifier concept in high capacity storage segment, which will be launched in key
cities across different regions. Expansion plans are in pipeline in terms of distribution & service
centers in order to roll out Sub Rs. Xxxx RO water purifiers. Based on this successful brand
performance CLSA Capital Partners has recently invested INR Xxx million (USD$ Xxxx million)
in Luminous Water Technologies Ltd. A massive expansion plan is on the cards to increase the
network in terms of distribution and service centers with distribution reach for Livpure to be
increased by Xxxx times and the number of service centers to be increased in numbers from

Panasonic entered in the India market with electric water purifiers in the year 2012. The
company has also recently forayed into the non-electric water purifier segment to tap rural and
urban households. It has launched three models of gravity-fed water purifiers, priced between
Rs Xxxx to Rs Xxxx. Moreover, the company has also plans to export this affordable range of
water purifiers to other developing economies. Besides the above mentioned brands of water

The RO water purifier industry in India is showing huge potential due to low penetration of these
water purifiers, which is at a very low level of one percent currently. Recognizing the untapped

The space of outlets retailing water purifiers has grown rapidly to an estimated Xxxx in urban

For the places where the water have low TDS levels and the power cut is too high the non
electrical purifiers are the best option available in the market. New entrants in the offline
purifiers segment have increased the opportunity size for the water purifying market as it has
been able to wrap up the Bottom of the Pyramid (BOP) segment of the population as a target
market for the water purifier. This segment of the population was not considered as a target

Tata Swach nano silver-based water purifiers were introduced in the Indian market in 2009 and

purification solutions. Eureka forces with its brand Aquasure has started focusing on emerging
