Syllabus and Student Conduct Agreement

Delivery: This class is totally online, executed via Blackboard. Most of delivery is done via
videos, and typical assessments and practice are done via exam files from Blackboard.
Prerequicites: At a minimum, a working knowledge base of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
Most learners will be participating as a manner in which to accumulate continuing education
credit for their already held state of Wisconsin electrical credential. This course is not
recommended for a learner without any prior NEC experience.

Course Description: National Electrical Code Update is a course which will enhance the
student's understanding of the latest version of the National Electrical Code (NEC) by providing
instruction on the newest changes to the current edition. The course will clarify the NEC

requirements by increasing the learner's knowledge on proper use and application of the NEC
regarding installation, testing and inspection of residential, commercial and industrial power
systems.

How to Access the Course, via Blackboard:

Open your browser (Internet Explorer, etc.)


Navigate to www.fvtc.edu
On the left side of the screen, click the Blackboard link
Enter your User Name (your 9-digit Student ID number).
Password: The password you use to get into "MyFVTC. (This is the password you
currently use to register online for courses and to see your final grades. This is also now
the password you will use to get into your Blackboard/online courses.)
On the Welcome screen, locate the box called My Courses. Click the underlined
name/title of the course.
When the course opens, click the HOME PAGE button.

Grading Policy:
The final grade is determined by the total number of points you acquire from all of the
activities. Keep track of all of your assignments until you have received your final grade.
Students can view grades on Blackboard by clicking on the Grades button. It is YOUR
responsibility to monitor grading. Typical grading is shown below.
Grading approximations:
Class Participation - (5) points each module

This includes logging in at least 3 times each of the 4 weeks, plus the viewing of each of
the slide presentations. Each one is typically worth one point.

Discussions 10 points per module

Each module will have a corresponding discussion, and can refer to rubric for grading.

Concept Check Quizzes (10) points each module

Quizzes are typically 10 question, multiple choice that review the general concepts of
each module. Each question typically has a wroth value of 1 point each.

Kahoot Quizzes (5) points each per module

These will be graded as pass / fail. Participating in game nets learner 5 points.

Flowchart creation (10) points per module

Flowcharts will be graded via rubric provided, on a 0-10 point value. Aesthetics and
content will be evaluated, along with successful completion of path to problem-solving
technique.

Final practice question quiz (20) points per module

Each module will be completed with a 20 question, multiple choice quiz, similar in
format to State of Wisconsin exams. Each question is typically worth 1 point.

Scale:

93 100%: A
92 83%: B
72 82%: C
71 or lower: may be time for a new career path

Course Schedule:

This is a 4 module course, spread over 4 weeks.


Each module will open Monday morning at 6 AM.
Initial posts, the viewing of presentation slides, and the initial concept check quiz are
due by Thursday at 11:59 PM CST.
Completed flowcharts, 2 additional discussion responses, and module final practice
question quiz will be due by Sunday night at 11:59 PM CST.

My expectations for this course:

Assignments are due at 11:59 PM CST the day they are due.
Everyone will receive one Get out of Jail Free Card for the semester. This can be used
on anything including late assignments to be done without penalty. This allows extra
time to completion, but are still required to be done.
You are expected to have access to Blackboard outside of class.
We will be using schools email for all course related communication purposes.

Late assignments / tests: all work can be made up after the due date for up to 70%.
After the due date, you have until course completion date to complete.

What I expect from you:

That you will get out of this class what you put in. Please put the effort required to be
successful in, and do the things I ask. I have your best interests as my number one
priority.
Do the very best you can.
That you will come to me with any issues you may have: personal, professional,
academic, or other. That means text, call, email on any day, at any time.

What can you expect of myself:

That I will do my best for you guys, and will monitor class a minimum of once every 24
hours.
I will respond to all emails within 24 hours, 7 days a week.
You will get maximum effort from me every day. No one will work harder for your
success than I will.
Lets have a fun year. I absolutely love what I do for a living, and I want you to enjoy
coming here, just like I do. I want you to get as much from this experience as possible.
