Characteristics of Ideal Capacitor

Characteristics of an ideal capacitor Current through the capacitor is zero if the voltage across it is constant. A capacitor is therefore an open circuit to DC. A capacitor resists an abrupt change in the voltage across it An ideal capacitor never dissipates energy, but only stores it

Inductors

An inductor is typically a coil of conducting wire

Inductor stores energy in its magnetic field

wire • Inductor stores energy in its magnetic field • Voltage across inductor is proportional to
wire • Inductor stores energy in its magnetic field • Voltage across inductor is proportional to

Voltage across inductor is proportional to the rate of change of the current producing the magnetic field. Constant of proportionality is inductance, L
