GITA DHYANAM

This is our sincere effort to bring in the word to word meaning of Bhagavad Gita for simple
understanding of the meaning of the word and also the order in which the Sanskrit and English
words needs attention to understand the total meaning of a sloka. Apart from this we are making
efforts to give the dictionary meanings of a word which will be useful either in philosophical,
psychological, societal and day to day usage of the word. This will enhance the word power while
learning Sanskrit through Bhagavad Gita. Because this is also a primer in Sanskrit wherein every
sloka will enrich the grammatical content with easy explanation by members in Veda Vidya
Vignana Vedika.

with the assembled warriors eagerly awaiting to wage the war, what My kith and
kin and the sons of Pandu both sides did?
4. : is a Singular subjective form of Dritharastra which is masculine gender and
ending with a Kara ( Refer - Tutorial
)
When it is followed by Uvacha (which is starting with the Oval U Kara which is other than
a Kara hence the Visarga disappeared. (Refer-Tutorial).
= Unlike Dritharastra which is a nominative form, Uvacha is the verbal form. As
indicated in tutorial these Nominal and Verbal forms are the chief division in Sanskrit for
formation of the words. This is the Past tense in " " form
- This is the combination of two words which are explained in in
tutorial. In combining words, we take only the (prtipadika = nominal
form) and at the end (vibhakti Nominative case) is added. The ketra
becoming ketr indicating Saptami vibhakti Similarly is also in
Saptami vibhakti.
Since both are in Saptami Vibhakti, The first one is adjective to the 2nd one i.e.
giving the meaning in the righteous field of Kurukshetra
,- Plural form of samavta, In singular form (samavta)
(samavetau) is dual form.
There is excellent modifications that takes place in higher Sanskrit
grammar. Where in Verbal root transforms into nominative root form. This has
many turns and twists. Which however is included in the tutorial. However this
word is in plural form.
This is simple plural Nominative form of singular , dual (mmaka)
(mmakau) This is the derived from the root word (mama)

This same as above: Plural form of (pava), which is derived


from (pu) meaning the progeny of Pandu. Same way (rghava) from
(raghu)

5. Very rarely we find a scripture starting with the word which represents the entire gist of the
subject. Bhagavad Gita aptly starts with the word dharma which is the essence of
the Gita.
dharma actually means: that which runs the entire universe , generally
used for righteousness, Nature, Justice, Virtue, Religion, Yama dharma, Duty,
Noble works,
ketra : Place of sowing, Field, Farm, Region, Sphere of action, Place of orgin,
Portion of space, fertile womb, Zodiac sign, Planetary orbit, Battle field
kuru : Place belonging to Kuru cult. It also tallies with a verbal form for action
ordering to do.
Note: (We are taking a few words which might be useful in relating to
Psychological or Philosophical and Social aspects.)
