To encourage green buildings, the Noida Authority has decided to reward about two dozen developers who
have opted for eco-friendly construction by giving them 5% floor area ratio (FAR) for free. In the last six
months, layout plans of around 20 buildings that have been designed completely on the green concept have
been approved by the Authority.
The Authority charges a hefty sum from those builders who want to purchase an additional 5% FAR.
"However, if a building design is considered eco-friendly according to the Green Rating for Integrated Habitat
Assessment (GRIHA) or by the Union ministry of forest and environment, then the 5% additional FAR is given
for free," said a senior Noida Authority official.

Extra FAR in regions like Noida, operational cost savings, increased market value, increased asset value,
green corporate image and reducing incremental cost are the factors backing the green concept in the
country.
