The Next Chapter
Introduction
University of California San Diego is considered to be one of the powerhouse
schools in the nation. UCSD allows students to receive a great education that will allow
many doors to open in the real world once graduated, but also allows me to continue
with my soccer career at a high level.

On Campus Housing
Over the past few years I have attended around 10 college campuses around the
States and have come to the conclusion that UCSD has the nicest and most modern
dorms. The dorm I saw had 2 bedrooms that held two people per person but each pair
had their own bathroom. The other dorms allow a two person room, and three single
person rooms. The room also came with a small kitchen and fridge and a small lounge
area. The dorms were set up in an apartment like complex where a few small buildings
surrounded a small outside grotto-like area. These dorms allowed for privacy, but also
make friends with ease.

Apartment Housing
The apartment housing I chose to research was Axiom La Jolla. Axiom La Jolla is
one of the closest apartment complexes being about a mile and a half away from the
campus. Looking at most of the apartment complexes, a student will find that rent is
around 1800-2000 dollars within a 3 mile radius of the campus, and that is a one person
apartment. Axiom is one of the higher end options that come with a very nice floor plan
and also have complete amenities. There are also many other amenities a student can
pay for to have access to, for example the state of the art fitness center. I do have the

option of having a two person apartment with more floor space, but will increase the
cost of the rent to around 2800-3250 dollars. I would share with a roommate to split the
cost of the rent for a cheaper price.

Housing Reflection
After much research, and laying everything out in a chart it is very easy to make
a decision on which option of housing I will choose. On campus housing cheapens the
cost around 7000 dollars and thats without paying for things like a gym membership

included in the apartment cost. I do plan to live on campus for the first year to make
friends and become acquainted with everyone. After that, I do plan to live off campus for
the rest of college. Realistically though it would be best to live on campus just because
of the steep increase in price.

Financial Plan
After considering all the costs of tuition and room and board, on campus will be
around 40,000 dollars a year on campus. For off campus housing at Axiom La Jolla
everything will come out to be around 45,000 dollars a year. The surrounding area and
luxuries do raise the cost of my college experience, but hopefully it is all worth it.

Estimated Expenses
Due to the high differences in price, I will decide to live on campus. The dorms
are already apartment-like, and also allow for my need for some privacy. Plus, having
friends close by will increase the enjoyment level of my college experience. It is an easy
decision that does not require much thought. The dorms are also very high end and will
satisfy me for my college career.
Estimated Income
As everyone knows, everything in California is much more expensive than
Arizona in pretty much everything, ranging from snacks and real estate. In California,
the minimum wage is 10 dollars and hour, which became effective January 1, 2016.
Working around 40 hours a week I will be making around 21000 dollars a week. I will

also be supported by my parents with tuition, but only if I go to medical school

afterwards. If I do not, I will have no support from my family.

These charts represent the difference between my expenses and the amount of
income I will be earning a year. As I have already found out, living on campus will be
cheaper therefor I will be comparing the price of living in a dorm to the amount of money
that will be available to me.

Financial Plan Reflection/Conclusion

After researching the cost of living in California, it really puts a huge weight on
my shoulders of what is to come. Not only does making ends meet financially, but also
studying as a full time student makes living a hardship. Thankfully my parents are in a
very financially secure state to help me through college financially. Also my parents

were smart enough to put money away since I was a small child and now I have around
50,000 dollars saved up from all the birthday money and holiday money aside.
