INTRODUCTION
(FATNIN)
Ladies and gentlemen,
SLIDE 1
The first picture that I am going to show you is the world that we are living now. And the
second picture I am going to show you is the picture of the world that we might live in, in 10
years time. So, what is feeling now about this? Can you guess who is the culprit behind all
these disasters? I leave this to you to ponder.
(Pause for awhile)

SLIDE 2

May peace be upon you and very good _________ to all judges and my fellow audience. I
am _______(1/2/3/4)_________ and we are from Sekolah Kebangsaan Taman Cahaya
Masai.
Ladies and gentlemen,
There reason why I am highlighting the two pictures just now is to get your attention on one
of the emerging issues concerning to the global warming scenario. But before that, I have
one question for you. Have you ever come across of a thought on how much carbon have
we released from the vehicles we used to be in this hall? ....Well, it is impossible for us to
determine the exact reading. However, what is certain, we have exactly committed a minor
crime to the world by contributing to the global warming scenario that is happening now. This
is because for every energy we consumed releases some amount of gases, for instance
carbon dioxide which becomes the biggest threat to the Earth if it is not being controlled.
Thus, as Iskandar Malaysia Worriers who will fight for any injustice actions on the Earth,
we would like to call all of your attentions to stand with us and give the equal right to our
dying Earth.

SLIDE 3

(HAIFA)
In this presentation, we are going to discuss based on 6 sub-themes. They are:
1. Low Carbon Society Definition
2. The importance to reduce the release of carbon dioxide
3. Ecolife challenges potential
4.Low Carbon Society-related scenario in Iskandar Malaysia
5. Possible practice of renewable energy in our school
6. Our effort in reducing greenhouse gas emission

(ALIA)
Members of the floor,
Malaysia has become one of the countries that pay great attention in combatting the
global warming issue. Though our moves cant be equally compared to the developed
countries for instance Japan, we are still trying to enrich the societies mind to have the
awareness and skills of energy-savvy community.
SLIDE 4

(AIFAH)
So, that is why Iskandar Malaysia has been introduced as a pioneer in creating a Low
Carbon Society. This is in line with our pledge to reduce 40% of greenhouse gas emission by
year 2020.
(DANISH)
Ladies and gentlemen,
One of the moving actions taken under this program is Ecolife Challenge. This has become
a good platform for us, as the young generations of Malaysia, and the members of the world
as a whole, to learn and nourish ourselves with good education on how to save the Earth.

2. What do you understand about the concept of Low Carbon Society?

SLIDE 5

(FATNIN)
Ecolife Challenge is so much related on the idea to have a Low Carbon Society. In brief, a
Low Carbon Society can be defined as people who live high quality life by emphasizing on
family and community ties, and in harmony with nature by having a minimum emission of
carbon dioxide.
Members of the floor, basically, there are 3 principles applied of a Low Carbon Society which
are:SLIDE 6

1. Minimizing the carbon emission in all sectors.

2. having a simple and high quality of lifestyle
3. and at the same time having a good rapport with the nature.
Thus, I can conclude here in simpler words, a Low Carbon Society are people who chase for
the development but at the same time they take good care of the world.
3. Why do you think there is an urgency to reduce the release of carbon dioxide gas?
(ALIA)
My fellow audience,
SLIDE 7
I hope by now, after few minutes of our presentation, all of us should come to realization that
we have the urgency to reduce the release of carbon dioxide gas.
SLIDE 8
This is because all the phenomenal disasters such as flesh flood, land corrosion, the
extinction of creatures, weather distraction and even infectious diseases are caused by this
threatening gas.

SLIDE 9
The main cause of the global warming scenario is because our atmosphere is covered by
98% of carbon dioxide.
SLIDE 10
And can you guess who contributes to this carbon dioxide emission? Its YOU and ME!!!
4. Our country has committed to the 40% of the greenhouse gas by 2020. Ecolife
Challenge is one of thee program implemented in Iskandar Malaysia to achieve this
goal. How do you think this program is beneficiary to the society?
(HAIFA)
SLIDE 11
Thus, Ecolife challenge can be one of the best solutions to overcome these problems. The
main aim of Ecolife Challenge is to educate the society and raise their awareness on how
their daily lifestyles affect the environment.
SLIDE 12
Since the main aim is to give challenge to the society, the Ecolife Challenge places high
attention on societys efficiency in their energy usage such as electricity and water usage.
Secondly, their ability to select for environmental labels for example choosing LED
appliances rather than LCD and plasma and consuming more home appliances that are
energy-efficient. Lastly, to change their practices by working for possible renewable energy
in Malaysia and I would say, solar energy system might have a positive potential for now and
for the future.
Hence, these are how Ecolife challenge educates Malaysian society. This means we tackle
the problem from the grassroots level which is ATTITUDE.

5.The are many future development going to be implemented in Iskandar Malaysia. What is
the most realistic scenario in developing the Iskandar Malaysia by adapting the concept of
Low Carbon Society?
(DANISH)
SLIDE 13
Ladies and gentlemen,
The rapid development in Johor forces the authorities to look for ways to manage the
possible recurring problem, for example, global warming issue . As a result, Iskandar
Malaysia has been designed with strategies that leads to the climate of a Low Carbon
Society. Since it is established on 8 November 2006, there are many investments and
project that support the motion. For instance, Iskandar Malaysia is committed in improving
the public transportation by setting up more centres such as Johor Bahru Central, Larkin
Central, and Johor Bahru railway station to encouragr the public to use the facilities. At the
same time, the features of the building and the city layout pay much attention on the effort to
create an energy-savvy atmosphere.
SLIDE 14
Here, I give you the summary of the efforts taken in Iskandar Malaysia to have a Low
Carbon Society.:
SLIDE 15

6.There are various types of renewable energy available in Malaysia. What are the types of
renewable energy that could be implemented in your school? Why do you think they should
be implemented?
(Fatnin)
SLIDE 16

Ladies and gentlemen,

To narrow the discussion to a smaller prespective, this Low Carbon Society idea can be
nurtured in the school compound.
SLIDE 17
For a start, the use of renewable energy might work in most premises including my school.
By looking at the climate, a solar electric system that capture the sun energy can be the best
replacement for the current electricity consumption. Though it is quite expensive for the
installation, it can give a miracle result especially in having efficient energy consumption.
Alternatively, a Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) which is an electrical power generated
from underground water or simply soil might save much energy. This system can be used to
cool a condenser instead of an outside coil and fan. Since many schools now including mine

are facilitated with air-conditioned systems, Ground Source Heat Pumps (GSHPs) might
increase the used of energy efficiency in my school.
In terms of practices, our school is always complied with the circulars given by the
authorities for example to always keep the air-cond not to be less from 24 (degree).
Moreover, we always have the support from the parents when they are willingly to donate all
the recyclable items to be gathered at the school. This indicates how our school has taken
the issue of global warming seriously.
SLIDE 18

7. A moderate lifestyle could help to reduce the Green House Gases emission. What are the
daily activities that have been adopted by group members in practising moderate lifestyle?
(ALIA)
SLIDE 19
Members of floor,
My science teacher once said, A small action might give a big impact which reminds me on
my responsibility as a student to practice this Low Carbon Lifestyle. There are many actions
that I can take in order to support this effort. In my slide, I have summarised them into few
actions, for example...
SLIDE 20

8. Our Eco-house model.

(HAIFA)
SLIDE 21/22/23

My fellow audiences,
You are very lucky today to witness our school innovation on a house model that promotes
an Ecohouse design. We purposely share this idea so that it can be a prototype of house
model to be widened throughout the nation.
SLIDE 24

Basically, this house has features of grassed rooftop so that it will not trap the heat and
make the house cooler. The yards are grown with greeneries to reduce the absorbent of
heat. Meanwhile, the wall and the floor are made up of wood to keep the coolness of the
house.

In the aspect of the source of energy, this house is equipped by solar energy system and
wind turbine to replace the current electrical supply system. At the same time, we are using
the biomass energy that obtained from the food wastes that can generate methane gas
which can be used as the combustion material. The wastes from the plants and animals also
can be used as a composed fertiliser.
A filtered watershed to restore the rainwater is also being installed in this Ecohouse model.
The stored rainwater can be used for washing and other domestic use.
