(based on the work of Jean Meeus)

by Keith Burnett & Hugh Gibson http://www.btinternet.com/~kburnett/kepler/sidereal.htm

Sidereal time is the hour angle to the Vernal Equinox (R.A. 0h 0m, Dec. 0 0') in Pisces
Sidereal Time is the right ascension on the celestial meridian
Universal Time (UT) is based on the apparent movement of the Sun around the Eearth
Sidereal Time is based on the apparent movement of the stars around the Eearth
Sidereal Time runs faster than Universal Time (UT)
One Sidereal Day is 23h 56m 4.10s long
Sidereal Time agrees with the solar time only at the autumnal equinox
Mean Sidereal Time is corrected for the averaged Sun position
Apparent Sidereal Time is corrected for precession and nutation
Local Sidereal Time is additionally corrected for the Longitude of the observer
