PORT DESCRIPTION
Location: Vadinar Terminal is located 45nm SW of Kandla, on the S bank of the Gulf of Kutch.
General overview: The ESSAR terminal consists of an SPM and oil jetty for crude and products tankers. It is an
extension to the nearby refinery.
The Indian Oil SBM's for VLCC's lead to shore storage tanks and a pipeline to three inland refineries.
Traffic figures: Approx 150 vessels visit the port and 14,000,000t of crude oil are handled annually.
Load line zone: Arabian Sea Seasonal Tropical Area, Tropical Sep 1 to May 31, Summer Jun 1 to Aug 31.
Max size: ESSAR Oil Jetty: LOA 245m, draught 15.0m, no beam restrictions, 110,000DWT.
SPM: 325,000DWT, no restrictions on draught, length or beam.
INDIAN OIL SBM: LOA 362m, beam 60m, draught 23.0m, 315,000DWT.
Largest Vessel: "Abu Rusha", LOA 357m, draught 22.8m, 325,000DWT.

All vessels should maintain a listening watch on Ch 12 during cargo operations.
Health regulations: Local port health officer grants pratique after boarding vessel.
Customs and Immigration: Customs allowances: One bottle of liquor and one carton of cigarettes is allowed for
each crew member per week.
Immigration: Immigration officials will check passports/CDC (Seaman's Books) and issue shore permits. Nationals
from Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh and China will not be issued with landing permits.
Flags: Indian National flag and Interco Bravo flag.
Notices of readiness: To be tendered as per terms and conditions of Charter Party. Generally, NOR tendered by
master on vessel's arrival advising that vessel is ready to work cargo.

NAVIGATION
Port limits: The SPM and the terminal is situated within Kandla port limits.

Sea buoys, fairways and channels: Approach should be made through the deep water route. Vessels calling at
the terminal may use either deep water route/outside DW route/as directed by the VTIS.
Pilot: Pilotage is compulsory. Send ETA to harbour master, Kandla port and local agents (Jamnagar) 72, 48, 24
and 12 hours in advance. Pilot boards in the anchorage area, NW of the SBM in position 2233.0'N 06938.0'E for
vessels calling at the SPM and terminal. For vessels moored at SPM, pilot remains onboard during the entire
period that tanker is moored at SPM.
Anchorages: Vessels calling VOTL to anchor within 1nm radius of the pilot station. Anchorage is prohibited
within 3nm of the terminal.
Vessels awaiting a berth may also anchor N of Sikka Creek, in the vicinity of 2231.4'N 06946.0'E, in depths of
17.0-20.0m.
These anchorages are exposed to the SW monsoon and reports indicate that the anchorage off Sikka Creek may
be crowded.
Tidal range and flow: Range up to 6.0m and tidal streams attain a rate of up to 3kts in the pathfinder creek.
Dock density: 1025.
Principal navigation aids: A light is exhibited from the SBM, a Racon transmits from the SBM.
Charts: BA 43, 672, 699. Admiralty Pilot NP38, NP286(4).
Restrictions: SBM: Vessels normally berth during slack water or on an ebbing stream, approaching the SBM
from W; due to insufficient sea room berthing is not attempted from E. Berthing is only daylight, unberthing is
carried out at SPM at night.
Terminal: Only daylight berthing operations are permitted at the Oil Terminal Jetty.
Berthing time is approx 2-4 hours.
Tugs: Two tugs of 45t bollard pull are normally available, with fire-fighting and anti-pollution equipment.

The Indian Oil tank farm consists of 13 tanks with a total capacity of 773,000mt. The 1,870km Salaya-Mathura
pipeline ashore supplies crude oil to refineries at Koyali, Mathura and Panipat.
Barges: Private barges are available for midstream loading/unloading, water supply, etc. Private tugs are
available for towing lash barges.

Developments: A proposal is being examined that would see the port being developed into an all cargo port.
It is reported that a single buoy mooring and two liquid jetties will be developed at Vadinar. Also, Palanpur Samakhiali -Gandhidham rail line will be converted into broad gauge. A bunker terminal and ship-repair facility will
also be developed and an offshore terminal is planned. The port is to have 11 cranes and more than 10 floating
craft.
