An example 10. An explanation 11. Concluding sentence (A statement that reflects on your claim in the topic sentence. It does not simply repeat what youve already said in the topic sentence) Example: Iago uses vile, sexual and animalistic imagery to torture Othello1. Though he tries to fight Iagos suggestions about his wife, demanding proof that her unfaithfulness is true, logic or reason left Othello once Iago asks if he would like to behold her topped2. Perhaps Othello had already thought of Desdemona having sex with Cassio, but by saying it out loud, Iago is able to pour salt on the wound3. Iago continues, suggesting Othellos wife and her lover are prime as goats, as hot as monkeys, as salt as wolves in pride.4 Once Iago forces the idea of Desdemona and Cassio together into Othellos mind, he adds images of animals in heat, mixing an already painful image with a grotesque one. With this, Desdemona is not the loving, caring and innocent lady Othello knows her to be. She is a disgusting animal, interested only in satisfying her body5. It is clear Othello is tortured by these images because he can hardly speak, able only to shout exclamations of pain6 such as Death and damnation! O! and O monstrous, monstrous!7 Cleary Othellos thoughts are dark, and his Hellish outcries are similar to what any tortured man may cry out during pain.8 These are tortuous images Othello is being forced to see, and Iago knows they will not go away. Othello will go mad trying to escape them9. 1 2 3 4
