School Improvement Plans

Manchester Valley High School and Liberty High School

School Vision:
MVHS: There school vision is to involve the community to help benefit the success
of all students. They are focusing on the academic growth, relationships and
developing character. Their graduates are prepared to meet the challenges of life.
LHS: Short and to the point; Strive for Excellence. They go on to put key parts of
the students life they are working on excelling in; Academics, Arts, Athletics,
Community, Service.

Goals/Objectives:
MVHS: In their goal section they have the three goals they would like to meet with
objectives within the goals. Under the objective they have written a quick sentence
about how the school is going to meet the objectives. The goals they choose to
highlight you can see that they are tied to their Vision and Mission Statement. They
clearly state the how they are going to make connections with the feeder schools
and local college. They are going to use the connections to continue the students
growth in academics and personal growth.
LHS: They have an added goal they would like to meet as well as more objectives
under the goals. They do not talk about how they are going to meet the individual
objective. They have emphasis on Students Instructional Needs and Developing
and Maintain an Effective Workforce. In these two goals you can see that their
overall goal is the students. They mention Gifted and Talented Program to the
Autism Spectrum. Their goal is to reach ALL students.

School Needs Assessment:

MVHS: This is a short section. They talk about data analysis on consensus during
SIT retreat and change with new solutions for student growth in PARCC and SAT
testing. They are also trying to increase support for Agriculture, World Language,
and Technology Programs. I find it interesting they have consensus during SIT
retreat, it makes it seem they are having staff issues. This is also the first time we
are seeing Agriculture, World Language, and Technology Programs mentioned in the
plan.
LHS: They mention the things they do well such as AP program and college
placement. With every positive item they also mention an area of growth. They
bring up that although they have one of the strongest AP programs is the best in the
county but they need to work on success in completer programs. Career readiness
should be a point of emphasis. They also say they need to reduce the gap between

highest performing student group and the lowest performing student group. They
always bring up the need to address the need to allow students to be better
equipped to meet the needs of a changing global.

School Improvement Goals to target Areas of Needs

Assessment:
MVHS: They are repeating their overall goals. Their first overall goal is the
Collaborate with others to remove barriers. Also working on collaboration in the
school with Administration, School Counselling, and instructional staff. Also that the
instructional staff with collaborate with feeder schools.
LHS: They took what was found in their needs assessment and made three goals.
Which are in line with their vision and mission statement. You see that their first
goal is to provide opportunities related to college and career readiness. Second goal
is to decrease the achievement gap between student groups. Lastly they want to
increase technology supported learning opportunities for all groups. These have
been consistent in the whole plan.

School Improvement Goal

MVHS: They break down the goals with actions; timelines, and how to measure
success.
1. Collaborate to remove barriers to student learning.
Manchester Valley mentions how they are going to help with such as
observing and collaborating within MVHS and with the feeder schools.
They give the school year as a time line and that only 30% of the staff
with participate.
2. Administration, School Counseling and Instructional Staff increase
collaboration in working specifically with the most struggling students.
To help reach the goal of reaching staff collaboration with struggling
students that they will have HAS Support and PARRC Support and that
60% of FARMS students will score about proficient level.
3. Instructional staff collaborate within school and with feeder school.
To meet this goal they want to see 30 % of the MVHS instructional staff to
participate in Vertical Teaming within content areas and Horizontal
Teaming between areas.
LHS: In this section Liberty breaks it down by goals with strategic actions, timeline,
and how they are going to measure success.
1. Increase student enrollment in courses and completer programs that provide
opportunities related to college and career readiness.

Liberty is wanted to educate parents, students and advisors (teachers) about

the CCCTC and other completer programs. They can do this in the advisory
program done at the school. They measure this by the number of students
that enroll in the course work and the number of AP test given/ students
enrolled in the class. Another way they plan on achieving this goal is by
providing opportunities for college-ready/CCCTC/internship student to present
their experiences. They can measure this by the students enrolled in
Internships and CCCTC. Lastly they are going to meet this goal by providing
opportunities for students to examine their career interest and assess their
career skills. They are going to measure a number of students completing
career inventories, providing students feedback about what is necessary for
certain fields and data collection done by Guidance and Career Connections
Coordinator.
2. Decrease the achievement gap between all student groups in the area of
content literacy.
Liberty is going to utilize assessments to identify students who are
underperforming, they are going to measure this by the different
assessments the students take; English 9,10, and 11 SRI; PSAT, HSA, PARCC
for at risk groups (FARMS, Special Ed, etc.). This data collection is going to
start when the students are in eighth grade and finish when the students
finish their eleventh grade SRI. Providing intervention for students and show
growth in their reading performance with the difference assessments. Lastly
they will reach this goal by expanding the use of IXL and other support
programs to support at risk groups. They will focus on level 1 and level 6
English and Math courses. They will measure this by collecting writing
samples for all content areas and increase the Accuplacer for at risk groups.
3. Increase technology supported learning opportunities for all stakeholder
groups. ( Stakeholder defined as; students, staff, parents, community)
In order to increase technology support they are going to use technology as a
tool for learning. This means they will identify important pieces of technology
used in the classroom such as Office365 and where students can get the
support for the use in the classroom. They will also provide professional
development for staff on how to use technology in the classroom. They will
measure this by the amount of credits for PD in the year.

While reading the different plans, you can tell how the staff is interacting at
the SIT retreat. For Man Valley I really noticed that they were having conflicting
opinions. In certain areas they were mentioning things that were not previously
mentioned. They seemed to have no cohesive element. Manchester Valley also did
not go into as much as detail as Liberty did in how they were going to meet them
objectives and how they were going to measure them. Liberty also went into detail
on how they arrived at their goals for the school year.
