GRAVITY CHECKS

Gravity is an attractive pull between two objects. For instance, when an

astronaut is on the moon, he feels the pull toward the center of the moon, not to the
center of earth. Every planets, satellites, or objects have different value of gravitation.
According to Newtons theory of gravity, every two objects in universe attract each
other with a force that is directly proportional to their masses and inversely
proportional to the square of their distance apart. Serway & Jewett (2014:591)
conclude, If two objects have different masses (m 1 and m2) are separated by a

distance of r, then the magnitude of the force of gravity is F g =

universal gravity which has been measured through experiments (6.673 x 10 -11
Nm2/Kg2). We all know that gravitation applies on every place in the universe, and it
depends on the place. So, if we assume that the world is round, the gravitation in
every part of earth is the same.
Related to this issue, there is a story. One sunny afternoon in 2016, there was
a young beautiful girl of 17 that was very interested in the theory of gravity. The girl
name was Sofy. She was a fresh graduate from an international high school in
Lampung. She grew up in a very rich family. Her mother was a famous lawyer in
town, and her father was a businessman. Because Sofy would continue her study in
college soon, her family wanted her to take linguistic major.

No longer after that, Sofy was sent to college because it was her duty to
continue her study. The college actually located in Surakarta, Central Java. She tried
to love her new situation, new friends, and new habits, but it was not very easy. She
always felt homesick everywhere and anytime. She didnt merely miss her family but
also her friends in Lampung.
Several weeks passed and finally it was the time to prepare the new students
inauguration party. Sofy didnt know how to dress beautifully. So, she asked her
friend, Claire, for some helps. She went to see Claire in the next day. She asked
Claire to help her about the gown, accessories, and shoes. After that, Claire went to
her dressing table, took and opened a large box. Sofys heart began to beat faster. She
discovered a superb diamond necklace. Her hands trembled as she lifted it. She
fastened it around her neck, upon her high dress, and remain in ecstasy at sight of
herself.
The day of the party arrived. She was the prettiest woman present. She was
also very elegant, graceful, smiling, and calm with happiness. All the men stared at
her in amazement, inquired her name, and asked to be introduced to her. From all the
men who stared at her, her eyes stopped at a gorgeous and charming guy. She felt in
love with the guy. Luckily, he felt the same, and they were dating in the next day.
After a year, they both decided to travel around Java as their first anniversary
celebration. Because it needed much money, the guy decided to be a clown. He
visited a zoo and attempted to earn some money by making a street performance. He
acted and mimed perfectly same animal acts. Day by day passed, then they realized
that it wont earn much money. Soon Sofy had a bright idea and exclaimed, Why
dont I ask some money to my mother?. He looked at her out of furious eyes and
said impatiently, Will your mother give you much money if you say its for
travelling?. Of course not, but Ill lie if I will buy some books, replied Sofy.
Her mother always gave her money every time Sofy asked for it. Her mother
firstly thought that it was really for books, but actually Sofy and her boyfriend used

the money to travel, to hike mountains, and to go to some beautiful places. This lasted
for several months. After six months, her mom felt that there was something wrong.
She distrusted to her daughter.
Because her mother wanted to know what happened, she asked to Claire about
the money by the phone. Claire answered Sofys mothers questions honestly. Her
mother shocked and felt so angry to Sofy. No longer after that, her mother came to
Sofys dormitory and asked Sofy to tell the truth, Why are you lying to me? asked
her mother angrily. Im sorry mom, I dont mean that, replied Sofy. So, why did
you waste much money just to travel?. Then Sofy replied it again, I dont travel,
mom. I just do some random gravity checks.
