History of Mass Media Notes

Media and Communication began over 30,000 years ago through cave paintings. It was a form of
media.
The newspaper was the main form of mass media used when the first Europeans settled in
America.
Pictograms were used around 9000 BC to mark farm produce and things people needed.
Mass media was generally restricted to print media until after the Second World War. After the
Second World War, print media was replaced with other forms of media.
Radio, television, cinema, mobile phone, internet, recording, print etc. classifications of mass
media
First newspaper was made in Germany by Johannes Gutenberg in 1450

19th century Yellow journalism emerged (Propaganda/Sensationalism) also in form of print
media.

Cinema encouraged people to congregate in one place. Reduced the popularity of print media.
