University at Albany EOP Summer Orientation Program Rules and Guidelines Curfew Meetings Attendance Study Hour Computer Room Dress Guest Policy ~ is 11:00 pm Sunday through Thursday and 12:00 am on Friday and Saturday. Students are expected to sign-in with the Student Assistant (or SA) on their floor. Once you sign-in you cannot leave your suite, Curfew sheets will be located outside your SA’s door by 9:00 pm. If planning to go to sleep early, remember to sign in! -all meetings are mandatory unless otherwise stated. -BE ON TIME! In the EOP world, that's 15 minutes early. “Early in on time, on time is late and late is unacceptable!" Attendance will be taken at every group seminar and Unity Hour. You will have to sign-in with your assigned SA at each meeting. -We will have structured study hours Monday - Thursdays from 7pm-9pm. No cell phones or computers will be in use at this time. If you are scheduled to see. an instructor for tutoring, an SA will come to get you to walk you to your teacher. . No talking is permitted unless it is work related -If you sign up to go to the computer room to work on papers, an SA will escort you to the Computer Lab. You will need to have two hours’ worth of work to do as. this will be where you'll spend your 7pm-9pm study time. You may sign up to use the Computer during your lunch period Ladies are not to wear short shorts, tank tops, spaghetti string t-shirts, low cut t- shirts, mid-drift shirts or T-Shirts with offensive statements. You are to wear a thin/knit cardigan to cover your shoulders. T-Shirts and arm length shorts, jeans without excessive rips are fine. Bras are to be worn. No mini-skirts. Gentlemen are not to wear wife beaters, sagging pants, hats or du-rags inside any of the lectures/classrooms/events, Du-rags are fine in your bedroom. T- Shirts with offensive statements/photos are not permitted either. Dress clothes with dress shoes are to be worn at our two socials. No stiletto heels ladies. -Parent and family members/friends can visit you when you have a free evening, or period with prior notice to the EOP Director who will relay that request to the Resident Director/Assistant Resident Director. No student is to leave with parent or family members/friends without first introducing them to the Resident Director. Upon your return, you will need to let the Resident Director know that you have retumed. If you are going to Saturday or Sunday Religious Services, please let us know how you will be getting there and back. You must let us know in advance that someone will be coming to get you and they must introduce themselves to the RD before you leave. They must also let us know that you have returned.Visiting With One Another Going Home You may visit with one another in the common areas or in one another's rooms if you are a member of the same sex up until curfew. Opposite sex visits in any room/suite area is prohibited. -Anyone wishing to go home on the weekends of 7/15 and 7/22 must submit a completed on-line request by curfew on the Tuesday of that weekend (ie., Tuesday, July 12" for the July 15" weekend and/or Tuesday, July 19" for the July 22" weekend) at the latest. Your on-line submission must include: your name, your address, phone number where you can be reached, and a reason for going home. All those who go home are expected to return by 6pm Sunday in order to get settled and ready for 8 pm Unity Hour meeting. If you are unable to do so, you must call the EOP Director before 6 p.m. on Sunday at GB This should be a rare instance (i.e., car broke down, etc.) Leaving your home too close to the 6pm hour or your having to wait on your ride is not an acceptable reason for being late. If your ride cannot get you back to campus on time, either find another ride, or take the Trailways or Megabus bus back to the SUNY Albany stop. Visits home are at the student's expense. Assigned Buildings-For security purposes, only enter permitted areas in buildings (Mahican, Smoking/Drinking Montauk, Adirondack and Cayuga Halls and the Indian Quad cafeteria during meal times) and carry your keys and D at ALL times. Any student found in any other building without the Resident Director's consent, will be jeopardizing their stay here. Follow all posted signage as you will be held responsible for knowing where you can and cannot enter and all other posted building rules. There will be no smoking (of cigarettes) allowed inside the residence halls or in any building on-campus. There are designated smoking areas. Please ask for locations Drinking (of alcoholic beverages), Smoking (of anything other than cigarettes), Bullying, Drug Use/Selling, Threats to Harm, Unwanted Touching and/or Fighting will result in your immediate dismissal Abusive Language and/or Profanity will not be tolerated. Ordering Food Trash Rooms -Orders must be placed before 6:15pm if you are placing an order to supplement your dinner and any food ordered must be eaten either before the 7pm-9pm Study Period or can be eaten after the study period. No orders after 10:30pm can be made in general and if you are on residential lock down or room restriction, no ordering of food will be permitted. -All trash is to be placed in a trashcan or in the trash rooms located downstairs only. You may obtain garbage bags from the Residence Hall Director or the Assistant Director. -You are expected to keep your rooms reasonably clean. For this purpose, you may sign out a mop or broom from the Residence Hall Director. Any damage that occurs in the suite or rooms during the program will be charged to the entire suite or room,Keys Sickness Repairs -Lost keys will result in a billing of $100 after the summer program by the Office of Residential Life. -If you are too sick to go to class, you are to notify your SA, or a staff member. ‘An appointment will be made for you to be seen at the University Health Center and an SA will be assigned to accompany you to the Health Center. The University Health Center policy requires that we call first to set up an appointment to be seen as they do not deal with walk-in students. They can generally see students right away but require a call before going over. The Health Center appointment # is: 518-442-5229 and the RD, SA or anyone in EOP can help you make that call -if there is anything broken or not working in your suite, report it to the RD, ARD, or an SA and a repair slip will be submitted to Maintenance. Room Restriction-if you are confined to your room, you are only allowed to leave your room for meals and mandatory activities. The suite door must remain closed and no one in the suite is allowed to have visitors until your room confinement is over. You are to return to your room after activities/meals and you will not be allowed to order take-out food, wash your clothes or do anything that would require you to leave your room. Residential Lockdown _-If a violation occurs and no one steps forward to take responsibility for it, Bed rest if trash is consistently left in the common areas and no one cleans the trash up, if there is too much noise (i.e., people are yelling, talking loud, or music is too loud after people have been wamed to lower the volume), people leave their rooms/halls after curfew, or the suites/common areas are a mess after people have been warned to clean these areas up, then the entire program will have room confinement for a period of time to be designated by both the RD and the EOP Director. This is also referred to as residential lock down. During Residential Lock Down, you are to retum to your rooms during free time and immediately after your activities/meals and you may not order take-out food, wash your clothes or do anything that would require you to leave your room -If a student is found to be sleeping in class, seminar, or group session, he or she will get bed rest. If you get bedrest, you are to sign-in after study hour. The suite door must remain closed and no one in the section will be allowed to have visitors. You cannot socialize with your peers, do laundry, order food or step outside of your room as you are there to sleep because you have been seen falling asleep. Bed rest is in effect until the RD tells you you are off of it and you are to get some sleep. Horseplay inside the building is not permitted (including throwing and squirting water) Courtesy Hours Cellular Phones -Are in effect 24 hours a day since there are other students on the quadrangle. If any other staff member asks you to comply with a complaint about noise, do so. Report any complaints you may have to your SA or Resident Hall Director also -The use of cellular phones is NOT permitted outside of the residence hall that you will live in these 5 weeks. Leave your cell phone in your room before you head out to breakfast in the mornings so that you do not risk having it confiscated. Once our phone is taken, you will not get it back until August 7°. IfCars you love your phone and want to keep it all five weeks, leave it in your room in a secure location. When you get back to your room, you can use it during the permitted times. If you live in Mahican Hall, you can use it in Mahican Hall only. If you live in Montauk Hall, you can use it in Montauk Hall only. If you live in Cayuga Hall, you can use it in Cayuga Hall only. If you live in Adirondack Hall, you can use it in Adirondack Hall only. Nowhere else. If you order take —out, put your phone away before leaving the Hall to get your food. Students’ phones have been taken because they forgot they had their phone in their hand and ran outside to pay for their food. Once you step outside your hall with it, its ours. If you take your phone with you to class, to a lecture or anytime you're outside of your room/hall and it goes off in your bag or vibrates, we will ask you to open your bag and to give us your phone. There will be no arguing over it. Your college education is never worth less than your cell phone. If we ask you for it, just give it up. We will allow you to use our office phone to make and receive calls until you get it back August 5" and may even allow you to use our cell phones if need be. Your phone will not be given to your family if they travel to Albany to attempt to get it for you and if you are going home on an allowed weekend, your phone will be given to you Friday for safe travel reasons when you leave but you will have to return it to the RD upon your return to campus. We keep excellent records of all phones confiscated so if you love your phone and will NEED it these 5 weeks — which we know you will - do not put yourself in a situation where we will have to take it from you — because we will take it from you = no questions asked. On average, we have confiscated 15-20 cell phones every summer so far — we do not waiver on this rule so please do not put yourself in this predicament. If you use your phone to listen to music, you will not be allowed to use it for that purpose unless you are in your Hall/room. Please wear headphones when listening to music. If we see the imprint of your cell phone either in your pockets or your backpack, we will ask you for it. Bottom line - leave your phone in a secure location (locked up, your desk drawer, etc.) in your room when you leave in the morning and use it in your room/hall only during your free time. Do not leave your cell phone unattended or not secured — not even for a moment -If you would like to receive mail while attending the EOP Summer Program, all mail should be sent to the following address: (Your Name) EOP LI 94 University at Albany Albany, NY 12222 -You will be bought down to the EOP Office to collect your mail at some point during your Study Hour by an assigned staff member. No mail should be sent to you the Monday before the Summer Program ends (8/1) as we cannot guarantee that it will be here in time for you to receive it. -No freshmen student is permitted to have a car on campus. No freshmen is permitted to ride in someone else’s car unless it is a family member and even with this, all visitors are to see the RD FIRST before taking you off campus. Boyfriends or girlfriends who come to take you off-campus will need to be cleared by your parent first, then the RD. Students with cars will be immediately dismissed and students who leave the campus without the knowledge of the RDMedication tisk being sent home/forfeiting their UAlbany admissions. The EOP Director will be the one to make that decision. Your safety is our number one priority. -Any student who is on medication should make certain that he or she accepts the responsibility to take his/her medicine in a timely fashion (i.e. as prescribed). The Health Center can fill most prescriptions but you will need to bring an original prescription (i.e., no faxed prescriptions will be accepted) to the Health Center pharmacy. Please monitor your medication(s) so you don't run out of it. Telephone Access - Students can use the following phones: 1. The EOP Director's phone 2. The EOP Main Office (518-442-5180) 3. Your EOP Counselor's Phone (with their permission) Automatic Dismissals Possession of alcohol; illegal drugs; bullying/harassment, outright disrespectful behavior, fighting, stealing, leaving the campus period unescorted and/or without notice or approval, being found at an unassigned location socializing with non-program students, or assault/harassment of any kind will be grounds for your automatic dismissal from this program and forfeiture of your admission to the University at Albany. Interacting with continuing students Summer program students are not permitted to interact with any students outside of this EOP Summer Program. Continuing students will try to talk to you — don't do it. You are here to get to know one another as you will support one another during your years here. Come the Fall semester after you have developed your solid foundation complement of this 5 week Pre-College Summer Program, you can socialize with whoever you want. Summer Program rules will no longer be in effect after you leave us August 5” Exercise caution while navigating the campus and Albany area. Don't walk alone, especially at night! When in doubt about any of these rules or situations that may arise during the course of this. program, do consult a Student Assistant or the Residence Hall Director/Assistant Resident Director. DO NOT GUESS and do not play the “I didn’t know” card as you ll be held responsible for knowing them after tonight's floor meeting has ended.
