A compound word is made up o f two or more words. It
expresses a fixed m eaning and may belong to one o f two
patterns:
1. Main word + subordinating word, where the former indicates
the nature o f the latter like ill-treat, kind-hearted, blackboard.
2. main word + main word when two words are having the same
value like raincoat, whitewash, life-long.
A compound word may be noun, adjective or verb in nature.
